fuel economy, how the heck is this possible

I'm befuddled here. Some of you know my 5th gear doesn't work properly, so I just don't use it any more.
What's confusing me is the amazing fuel economy I've been getting.

This week I filled up with 504km (313mi) on the clock with 36.39L (9.6 US gal) That calculates out to 32.5mpg!

I drive mostly roads where the speed limit is 80km/h but I also do my fair share of city and rush hour driving. My longest highway drives without stopping is maybe 5 minutes.
Keep in mind I'm getting well over 30mpg with NO fifth gear on the highway, in COLD and damp weather; overall I've slowed down my highway speeds about 10km/h but should that really make a difference? Or is my car just a sort of fluke or something?
The best fuel economy I've had so far is a hair over 33mpg but nearly that whole tank was driven on the highway (this was before 5th gear gave out too)

Well, if you're not filling up at the same exact gas pump, it could throw it off. One time I filled up at a pump that shut off WAYYYY later than some pumps do, I put in like 13 gal from a 1/4 tank. Then I filled up at another pump a little while later, and it came out to be like 59 MPG or something, obviously not correct...

But I dunno, could be a fluke?

It was from the same pump, and I fill my tank pretty much to the brim every time anyways

eh, well, enjoy it while you're car works on it. i deliver pizza, so i hit the pumps maybe 2, 3, or maybe even 4 days a week just to top off my tank, so i keep damn good tabs on my gas mileage (18.1 mpg city /w a little highway as of 3/22/03), and pretty much, if you follow the gas gauge to determine how much gas is in your car, you're not thinking straight. i can run 150 miles on a tank and have it at only half a tank down, when in reality, it's more closer to just a 1/4 tank left. the most i get without running the fuel light constantly is about 210 miles, and thats with straight delivering/cruising at speeds no faster than 60mph over 1 minute at a shot, so... who knows.
peace

I get 300 miles on a tank...sometimes more. It varies depending on the oil I use I've found. My driving habbits don't really change much from week to week, so my economy is pretty consitant. I do a lot more highway driving than city driving.
