Car Won't Start Intermittently.
Hi
I am having a problem and I just don't know what the cause would be of this and what to test or even how to proceed.
Car - Mazda 3 2008 Sedan 2.0l with around 180,000km
A few days ago, I turned on my car to get gas and went to the station, when I got there the serviceman wanted me to pull up further, I tried to turn on my car and it would not turn on. I then tried again and it worked. I pulled forward more shutdown the car and filled up and then left for home. Next day I went to my car and again it did not start. I tried over the next 2 days and it would not start. I then called a buddy over who has a "code tester" to see if any codes are being thrown and first time I try with him the car starts just fine. I then shut off the car and tried again and never started again. We still did a scan but it came back with no codes.
I been having this problem for like 10 months now, were it just sometimes will start and some times it won't. I can go a month without having this problem and then boom it just hits. Usually I just try like 10 times in a row and it will start and then might work for a week with no problems or a month or a day.
To solve this problem I replaced
- Starter
- Battery 4 months ago (Battery was 6 years old and when I put my car in storage due to not driving it since of COVID, it just would not hold a enough charge anymore).
Since I replaced the Starter and Battery this has happened to me a dozen or so times. Back in August it happened again and I managed to get the car going again and brought it back to the people who replaced the starter, they tried for a few hours to try to recreate my problem but every time they started the car it worked, so they gave up and said until they can see the problem they can't do anything.
Now I have the same problem but I am scared to get it towed to the mechanic because by the time they look at it or heck maybe even the tow to the mechanic may fix it some how and then I just wasted money on a tow for nothing.
Process & Symptoms
1. Go to my car, key fob can unlock my doors
2. I put my key in the ignition
3. Turn the key.
- All gauges light up (check engine, abs, check oil and etc)
- Dashbaord lights up, can turn on the car lights
- radio comes on
- A clicking sound happens in the engine area.
Any suggestions?
