Not to be rude, but who gives a sh!# if the pics are rendered or true photographs? My guess is the actual new 3 will look 99% like those pictures. Why so quick to cry "fake" on them? Are you really counting on the new 3 being dramatically different than those pics? If so, you will probably be disappointed.

No one here (that I am aware of) has said that they believe the Mazda 3 pics are fake...and I think its important to some people to know that the pis are "fake" or not as they may be planning their future purchase on the next gen mazda platform...

And yes, I believe that the Mazda 3 is gonna look very close if not exactly as this pic:

I just fail to see how a close-to-exact rendering is any less helpful in making future purchase plans than a real-life photo of a prototype. I'd hope they'd also drive the thing before they wrote a check out to MAC.

I don't mind it looking somewhat close to Jetta, as long as the suspension will not be somewhat like in Jetta.
I hope you know what I mean.
Majority of VW's (GOLF, Jetta, GTI, Beetle)have outdated, soft and not confidence inspiring suspension what along with a rather wooly and spongy steering feel gives anything but sporty and surefooted driving experince.
In comparision with most American cars it may feel like a better than average handling/steering but only because most american cars are so terrible in the area.
Lately newer cars :Focus, Protege, Lancer are just so much better than VW's in handling/steering.
Guess what, next gen. Golf will be equipped with.....
Focus like multi link rear suspension (best in the bussines)
Focus took away so much sales in Europe from Golf/Bora (Jetta) that very stuborn VW fianally understood to work on the suspension of next gen Golf/JETTA.
Thank God next gen Mazda3 will also be based on the same rear multi link set-up (Current Focus, Mazda6, Ford Mondeo).

We are in the good hands.

I translated the autobild into engish

Mazda to third
That is the new Mazda3 Mazda drives consistently on Ford course: To Mazda6 (basis for the next Mondeo) and Mazda2 (basis Fiesta) the Mazda3 derived from the next focus comes in the autumn 2003. "the curse of the good act caught up, says me faster than expected" Martin Leach, and it does not know probably so quite whether it is to be pleased or annoy about it. "as I still with Mazda was, had I the ambition to build always better cars as Fords. Now am I a boss of Ford OF Europe, but I cannot carry it for me out nevertheless to leave Mazda from the eyes? particularly since I know exactly, which arrows have the Japanese still in the koecher... " In the black the team from Hiroshima with the new Mazda6 met, and also the Mazda2 has that things to the success model. In October 2003 the third caper follows with the Mazda3. The successor 323 is the first car on the new C-platform (compact class)? the Ford focus and the second edition of the Volvo S40/V40 are not series ripe against it before end of 2004. Martin Leach knows exactly, what comes to him: "much driving dynamics for relatively little money? we will have ourselves to exert." Itself the new Mazda3 will sell also over just as balanced as salient form. The draft originates from the branch office in the hessian Oberursel, but the speech from a "global Design strategy", whose fruits shortly one wants to harvest, is official. Quite global also the technical concept of the development number is J49. At the body structure the safety experts of Volvo have cooperated, which became platform considerably with Fords in Cologne conceived, the diesel engines by Peugeot are supplied, the new gasoline direct A splashes originate from the internal HP pS-Schmiede. The Mazda3 comes four weeks to the world premiere on the IAA (11 until 21 September 2003) at the same time as schraegheck and as sedan on the market. Follow a fuenftueriger high roof combination as if awake-replace for the Premacy and a not yet officially confirmed viersitziges Cabriolet, whose Dachmimik is to take loans with the Ford focus and with the Volvo C50. Conceivable also is a sporty Dreituerer, which already today a second career is forecast as low-priced basis model for the spreading haven? in connection with all-wheel drive and turbo-power. The 4WD-Technik and the first stage of the high motorizing remain reserving however first the Japanese domestic market. The reason: Mazda may move close neither too closely at Volvo nor step into direct competition to Fords. Therefore the mark must bake small rolls in Europe and position the Mazda3 a half stage under focus, gulf and Astra. The progressive rate of the engine pallet, which consists in the start-up phase only of three aggregates, is accordingly defensive: 1,4-Liter-16V, gasoline, 80 HP? 1,6-Liter-16V, gasoline, 100 HP? 1,6-Liter-16V, Diesel, 110 HP. In the middle of 2004 starts then 140 HP strong 2,0-Liter-Benziner. Also two new gasoline direct A splashes possess firm one commitment on the play plan. The small 1,5-Liter-Motor carries 100 HP out, the large 2,3-Liter-Variante mobilizes 160 HP. A second turbo-Diesel, which is to take 140 HP out of 2,0 litres capacity, is likewise announced. Theoretically the next C-platform could take up even a six cylinder, but an Mazda alternative to the gulf R32 is to time only grey theory. The Japanese enter new ground also on the transmission sector. With the Mazda3 they set no longer on the classical four-course mechanism with transducer bypass clutch, but on an automated transmission with five drive positions. The clutch pedal is void, is switched either with the selector lever or over paddles at the steering wheel. Alternatively to it there is a mechanism lane. In connection with the all-wheel drive (system Volvo) and the strongest engines one wants to after-push a six-course transmission later. Whether the stepless CVT automat of a daily planned for Japan comes also to Europe, is not well-known. Mazda plans three equipment variants named comfort (basis), exclusive (elevated center) and Top (actually a sport package). All models receive a completely again arranged Interieur to also clearly drawn instruments, comfortable seats, strongly improved ergonomics and high-quality surfaces. Because one cannot buy modern electronics more favorably anywhere in the world than in the Far East, the importer wants to be terminated DVD supported video and navigation systems or MP3-Playern the past high price strategy with Hightech accessories as. Also the basic price of the Mazda3 is to sink equipment, allegedly over up to five per cent. Thus do the Japanese try to double the paragraph in the first full season? of 15.000 in the year 2002 (old 323) on 30.000 units 2004. These ambitious growth rates come Martin Leach admit forwards: "the Mazda6 moved closer the Mondeo on the fur, than it can be dear Fords. They may assume however no second time will happen to us."

Exactly!! WHo the hell wants a rainbow roof? Too VW-ish. Geez, what is Mazda thinking? Glad I have a 3rd Gen.

The automotive industry has already accomplished that feat. Unfortunately it didn't go so well!

This "insider" couldn't possibly be any more "inside." This is how we got all the Mazda banners, pennants, cameras, water bottles, MP3 press car, etc. at the Ventura meet last year. From his description of the Mazda3 (which he saw at the Las Vegas dealer show late last year), these pics are pretty damn close to the production vehicle.

The more I look at the wagon/hatchback, the more it looks like a Ford, especially the rear 1/4.
