and these pics, posted by someone else a while back

are also confirmed to be the actual photos of the 3 wagon.

US specs will get a more aggressive body kit w/ fog lights up front, like the current P5.

I definately like the front, though the rear will take a while, and some more real pictures, to get used to. Also, the rear door styling looks like straight from the hatchback photos, and does not look that good on a sedan.

hmmmm i like the rear view of the sedan, looks muscular and audi-like. but the front ....reminds of the old 626 and Escort/ZX2 for some reason. 3rd gen looks better in the front to me.

now the hatchback... for the most part i like both views

The cabin reminds me of a VW Jetta...which is a good thing.

Door handles look to be a major improvement...

Wheel wells....hmmm...a bit of drop would be a huge improvement

I'd hit it...

I think the sedan is really not too bad, but it looks like it's much 'higher' than it has to be, ala toyota corolla. I don't mean ground clearence wise, the whole body looks like it's stretched up. The pro's now are so sleek, they're beautiful. The new ones: too tall! GRRRRRRRRRR...

The hatch is way too Vibe/Matrixy tall, too... Damn you mazda!

Thumbs up Hmm, Interesting

I totally agree with you, 4 rubBeR-- I was just thinking, "It's reminiscent of a Jetta".

I've long thought the current generation Jetta looks cool, except perhaps for the tail light assembly. Beyond that, however, I've long been offended by VW's condescending, consistent record of **** reliability in the Jetta.

I've been considering the purchase of a 2000 Honda Accord EX 5spd 2.3 liter 4 w/leather, but maybe I'll wait to see how the Mazda3 pans out...

I'm diggin' the front, but the rear will take a bit of gettig used to. I'm guessing the N. American version will have sportier tail lights, like the Pro5 does now.

Well...I like the wagon. It doesn't catch my eyes like the current protege did. When I saw the 3rd gen pro (especially the P5/MP3/ES-GT), I feel in love with the looks. It doesn't look like anything special to me.

Don't get me wrong. It's not ugly, but...I dunno. I guess it'll grow on me. But I do like the wagon.

Well, I guess I do like it now that I look at it again.
I still like the wagon better though.

doesn't the back end look Rx8 ish?

I actually like it looks much more solid then teh current generation, not as sleek but a good family resemblance with the 6 and others, I like the fact that car manufactures are getting back to the family resembalance thing again.
