Question Who's Interested in Turbo'ing their 99-01 1.6L DX/LX Protege?

I contacted Knight Turbos ang got this response:

If someone will put up the funds, I will build a custom kit. The most difficult part is the manifold, turbo, and downpipe. The intercooler may be fabricated at a later date, so 4-5 psi can be safely run at first to get the turbo going. If five buyers come up with $1500 each, I will build 5 manifolds, turbos(T3/T04 hybrid),and downpipes, oil lines, and simple pipe from the turbo to the throttle body..customer will provide hose clamps, fuel enrichment hoses, boost gauges, blow off valve, and better air filter, and possibly ignition timing controls.

.............................

So who's interested...and where can we get the timing controls? Haltech maybe?or MSD??..also what does he mean by fuel enrichment hoses?? plz post as many and as quick responses as possible...thx!!!!!!!!!!!!

really?? whats the name of the manufacturer and what does he want $$ for a similar kit???..I'm interested in turboing my engine...Im fairly confident my stock internals can handle 5-7 lbs of boost with no problem(as long as i have proper fuel management),and expect between a 30-40 increase in hp based on the turbo alone...I've never turbo'd before and trying not to break the bank...and before you tell me to get a 2.0,I can't..I'm too upside down on my loan and i know that turbo is going to be cheaper and easier than an engine swap..I'd love to go with the FS-ZE but I estimate the cost would exceed $5000...Where as a reliable everyday driveable turbo should run about $3000...correct me if I'm wrong here

really depends on how much work you can do yourself and how much power you want. The fs-ze will probably make more power than the 1.6L with 5-7 lbs of boost. If you can get a used turbo and intercooler then you'll save money. Otherwise, you're looking in excess of $1500 for a new turbo and intercooler ALONE. The FS-ZE is $2000 and you'll need custom engine mounts.

With either the fs-ze or turbo, you'll want some form of engine (fuel and timing) management.

My opinion: Solve your loan problems, then mod the car

If something breaks, you'll have no money to fix it.
