Procharger Supercharger

Well, I met with a relative this weekend who lives in AZ and works for Mesa Airlines. His other job is tunning cars. I didn't get to speak with him at length, but his recomendation is to not use a turbo and go super. In particular, he says to use procharger. I checked out their website, and of course it sounds awsome. Has anyone had any experience with superchargers? Can you identify the major differences, and what may or may not be a benefit? He says the good thing about the supercharger is that if the wastegate fails, unlike a turbo, you will not be thowing the boost in the engine. Make sence? He has been tuning cars for 15 years and has a tendency to talk over my head. Help me out. I sick of all the foocing kids racing me in dadies car on prom and winning.

Ok, that's a bit far-fetched. The truth is, centrigufal chargers don't give the torque gains you would see from a roots SC. Just like a turbo, their boost comes in only at higher RPMs. (the boost start point can be adjusted by changing the pulley ratio) Also, compared to turbos, centrifugal blowers have one drawback.... they use power from the motor to turn the compressor, whereas turbos use energy from speeding waste gases (exhaust) to turn the turbine.

That being said, centrigugal superchargers (or belt driven turbos if u may) will be the EASIEST to install on a stock engine and therefore the cheapest ....provided u are a bit creative about finding the proper parts and fabricating the mount.

Centrifugal SCs are very popular with BMW and MR2 owners. They are currently in development (i think a few have already been sold) for Miatas.
