Exclamation upgrading sound system

hey..

i have a 99 protege lx. I am looking towards upgrading the stock sound system for my protege.
I am thinking of 2 12" subs.. and an amp [im not sure what size and what brand i should go with]
Ive heard alpine type r subs are pretty good. I will probably keep the stock 6x9s in the protege, and replace the head unit. It cant be that expensive.. im looking to spend around max 300 for a good head unit. I listen to mostly trance-techno and a shitload of rap [mostly 2pac.. just hard hittin bass]. What are your suggestions about this.. like what brands do u suggest i lean towards, and mostly what size of amp should i get.. and what else would i need to achieve some great bass in my protege. And.. im not looking to spending a great deal of money.. i guess, just like GOOD quality products.. i would like to go max 2 grand for everything, or even 1500 if thats possible.

thanks in advance guys..

$1500-$2000? For just a deck and sub setup? YIKES!! You don't need to spend that much, but if you do, you WILL end up with a bumpin' ride.

My suggestion would be a very popular setup in car-audio circles, nicknamed the JBL/Brahma duo.

The JBL is the amp - a BP1200.1 This is a mono sub amp, that will put out over 1300 watts of real power, and costs under $300 - nice.

The Brahma is the sub - from Adire Audio. Cost for a 12": $369. Just ONE of these in a well built box will give you all the bass you need with the JBL. Get a box that's 1.5 cu/ft sealed (for punchy, tight bass) or about 2.5 cu/ft ported, with the port tuned to 30 Hz (for serious thump, but centered more around 30Hz - sealed is better overall sound quality, ported is more overall bass output) and you are ready to shake your trunk to pieces.

If you are dead set on spending all that dough, my advice is take the above equation and double it - two JBL amps, and two Brahmas. Hope your eyeballs are well-attached to your head.

Good deals on the JBL amps can be found at www.ikesound.com and www.bsless.com, and click this link to read up on, or order, the Adire Audio Brahma subwoofer: http://www.adireaudio.com/car_audio/...hma_series.htm
