I wanna buy some Pioneer speakers from ebay for my 99' Protege LX. what do you think? has anyone done that before?

6x8 - front
6x9 - back

Are those the correct sizes?

pioneer is fine for the back. Good filler. But for the front I recomend something more clear like a set of infinities.
Im actually looking for a good set of speakers upfront, for myself. IM thinking about a nice set of kappas. But then again they only come in 5x7 which will fit into a 6x8 hole but be smaller.
Im thinking about a set of Kenwood's, or infinity reffrence

QUality, the big piX

I got some JBL and sound damn good, BUT also in my other car I have a set of Pioneer and are close in performance one another.

The amplifier and radio play a big roll in delivering quality sound.

When buying AMPS look for RMS output, but for THD percentage delivery. Less than .5 percent is a good amp. If the MAP has more than 1 % no matter what the specs say is just crap.

You can have spankin good Bose, Infinity, wahtever, the latest of the trend, BUT a crappy AMP and it will sound like a toaster.

Look into the latest speaker to radio connection using CAT 5 cabling. This is top notch cables designed for data made available for music freaks like us.

I got it in my 323 and sound BEAUTIFUL!

Whoah, whats up with all this? Cat5 for car audio work? I'd think the cabling would be too.. unreliable for day-to-day auto use? I do IT and we're forever replacing ethernet lines..

However, I have used pro audio gear (Pro Tools stuff) that connected via CAT5 and it worked great.. may have been MIDI though, I can't recall...

Best EVER Radio to AMP Cables.

CAT 5 Shielded cables. You can buy em at SoundDomain store or any other distributor.

I am a Sound System on A Dime.

Bought around 12 feet of shielded Cat 5 cable. Went to Radio Shack and got 4 Black, 4 Red RCA connectors. You need a soldering gun, of course.

The middle connector in the RCA is for the signal, the OUTER metal piece in the back of the RCA is the Ground.

I did my cable in less than an hour and cost me less than 15 bucks and made to my own specs.

Results:

SICK SICK incredible sharp quality. No pitch unwanted noise when driving the car.

CONS:

If you play a cheap CD or low grade copy CD it will show in the sound. The same for a high quality recorded CD, all sounds will be sharp and clear.

I would never buy something i could hear... like speakers off of e-bay... even if you listen to the same model at the store you don't know what you're going to get... at least if you bought from a store you could take them back if you don't like the way they sound in the car...
