Painting Interior

I have seen several people who have painted parts of their interior and I wanted to do the same thing. There are several questions I have about doing this.

1. What is the best type of paint to use?
2. Would I have to use a clear coat?
3. Do I have to take the parts out?

Any information would be helpful. Thanks a lot.

I took my parts out. and cleaned them w/ rubbing alcohol. Then I used krylon primer and then krylon paint (which you can get cheap anywhere) I painted my interior about a month ago and it is holding up fine and It doesnt scratch off even if you drop your keys or something on it. Just remember to do several light coats and let the parts dry overnight before trying to put them back in, or you will scratch/chip the paint.
