reggae and latin stuff need tight bass cause the bass notes are very important. good sq subs would probably be:
-alumapro
-a/d/s
-bostons
-infinity perfects
-fusion powerplants/jonah's
-jl w7's

i didn't really have a plan when i bought my stuff, so i ended up with one 12 instead of two 10's...but i am planning to add another 12 next month. here is my sub and box:

just one 12 like i said. the rest of my pics are in my sig.

elchulo- i heard the volfenhags were crap. they looked cool and i was gonna buy it, but when i did my homework, i found they didn't stack up. i would suggest shelling out a little dough and get good subs.

...but $120/pair of 12's is pretty tempting.

man, you're the first guy to say anything good about the volfenhags, and i did a lot of asking around! how does it stack up against the mid-level subs? sq? spl? little of both?

when i went with fusion, it was a blind buy but i did my homework on those too. never heard 'em but got good reports (100%) even from the fusion "haters". so i decided to go with that line.

how do you like your boston's? four 10's is a bit much for me, but i'm sure you get good sound out of that setup!

Being a listener of mostly rock music, I only need the "fill" type bass with a bit of thump. After doing some homework, I realized that the 12" I have now really isn't going to give me what I want, and I certainly have to ditch the shitty amp.

Being that huge amounts of power are not my concern, I decided to go with the 10" JBL GT1041D. Good price, good powerhandling, and my last JBL was PERFECT for what I wanted. It was in a ported tube. I had that one in a sealed trunk, though - sounded awesome in the car, but you'd think it was crap-o-la with the trunk open. With the hatch design of the P5, I'll be going sealed box for tight sound.

My last JBL had a lower power rating, ran at 4 ohms, and was run by a lower power Kenwood amp than what I'm installing now. The 1041D runs at 250 RMS, 1000 peak. The RockFos amp puts out 360 RMS at 2 ohms, so I should have plenty of head room to back-off the amp gain and output level a bit and provide plenty of clean, un-clipped power for a sealed enclosure.

Elchulo - you probably need more and deeper bass than I do - the music you listen to (and the WAY you like to listen to it I'm sure ) just requires more power.

OMG - I can't wait to get to building this damn box!

I decided to go with one 12" due to the fact that I listen to rock and rap. I have a small sealed box and it sounds great. That Punch 360 that Hihoslva ordered is perfect for the JBL he got. It will sound great in the sealed box with the protege5's trunk/hatch setup. Great choices on components.

Those are pretty good amps.

The sub is doesnt really matter, that JBL will blow a hole in your roof.

Good stuff to hear

Now I'm even more impatient to get crackin.

The best part from my standpoint was the price - for the two RockFos amps, JBL sub, and a 4 gauge, dual-amp wiring kit with gold battery terminal and distribution blocks: about $560 shipped.

All this contradiction is what made me just get the solo barac 15" that I have now I like the way it sounds but it definatly needs a bigger amp.
I wanna run 2 good 12" subs that run at a lower ohm in order to save my alternator and make it a louder.
Sometimes the notes in my music that I listen are a little too high for my sub but too low for my mids. I wanna eliminate that with the 2 12's

Has anyone taken the spare out of the trunk for general weight reasons or is that just for racing?(i'm thinkin bout it and yes I have AAA )

The spare tire really won't save you that much weight .

But do whatever makes you happy!
