modify short shifter

I currently have an OBX short shift in my 00 protege. I want the **** height to be lower, way lower. I was thinking about taking it out and cutting a chuck out and reweld it together to lower it. What do you guys think, or do you suggest getting one that is adjustable(i.e. kartboy, Pacesetter, TWM, etc.)

Here is a pic of my short shifter now. The 2nd pic is an example of how low i want my shifter to sit. Any suggestions

If you shorten the shifter you will have less leverage to move things on the transmission end, which may make your shifts harder. You should also consider how shortening the shifter will put it far away from the steering wheel. Unless you have really long arms or sit really close to the wheel, you might have trouble reaching the shifter for easy use. In my opinion it would be better to leave well enough alone.
