Short Shifter

Has anybody taken the top section of the shifter off and rethreaded the top portion to get a shorter shifter throw instead of changing the shifter out?

Just wondering if the position is comfortable.
I have been looking for the adjustable shifters on ebay but I cannot find any.

People have done it, but it doesn't really shorten the throws anywhere near the amount a real short throw shifter does. A good portion of what gives a short throw shifter it's short throws is that it lengthens the portion of the shifter below the pivot point.

If I was you, and worried about the height being comfortable, I'd probably pick up a short throw shifter from someone with a Mazdaspeed Protege who replaced theirs. It's not a ton shorter than our stock shifter, and you should be able to keep your stock **** with it too

I've seen it on ebay from time to time.

I can personally recommend the TWM shifter. I've had it for over 3 years and it's treated me great

I bought an obx adjustable off ebay. The bad thing is, you have to pull the shifter out obviously, but if you move it all the way down, it hits the exhaust. You have to pull it up a little and the screws dont hold it in. I recommend welding it once you find the spot you like it (and take it out of the car when you weld).

Get a B&M short shifter. Really short throw, and it sits at just the right height.
