Interior Color

I hear that I don't have to rip out my carpet and other things to get a different interior color. My upholstry and dash are faded and I hear I can get some sort of "interior paint." What's the deal with that? I'm willing to tear apart the whole interior but I'd rather not if I can paint or dye the fabric. Am I supposed to use RIT or is there a real "automobile fabric dye?"....and what are the consequences, if any?

thanks for your time

You can use RIT, but you will have to stuff your carpet into a washing machine big enough to handle it. There are dyes available in spray cans, but I believe they are primarily for vinyl. I've seen some people spray paint their carpet, but that's just plain ghetto. You can always go to an automotive upholstery store and buy some new carpet. You'll need some contact cement and some patience, but it can be easily done.
