How do I get to the rear speakers?

OK, this is a really stupid question, I'm sure, but bear with me for a minute. I am trying to replace the rear deck 6x9's in my 2003 sedan. I have the new speakers, I have the plugs I need, and I cannot get to the damn things. The rear deck is a single plastic unit that covers the top, and you can't get to the speakers from the bottom. The plastic is held on by little four-prong barbs. I haven't been able to bend them enough to get them off with my hands or with pliers. What kind of tool is there to get those off?

Thanks,
Joel

I have a pair of what looks like a standard screw driver with exception that it curves outward and goes out in to a "Y". There is a thread from long ago that shows you how to take the rear deck out. I will do some research and try to help out.

Just put a screw driver between the metal and plactic and pry them out. I think I just pulled the plastic till those four prong fasteners came out. THey push back in when putting the plastic piece back on after installing the speakers. There are some screws on the top of the deck under the things that you attach child seats to.

Fold down the rear seats and you should see 4-5 fasteners. You pull out the center of the fasteners and then they come right out. Once you get all those removed there are 4 fasteners on the top. One near each corner. These just snap into holes in the metal rear deck. I climbed into my trunk and you can see the front two fasteners. I pushed on them from the trunk while pulling up on the rear deck and they came right out. For the rear 2 I just stuck my hand between the plastic rear deck cover and the metal rear deck and pryed up until they came out.

So I'm not going to break them by forcing them backwards through the holes? I tried forcing it before but I didn't want to push too hard cause I thought it would just rip them off and I wouldn't be able to put the deck back on again.

OK, so it turns out I was just being stupid and I hadn't looked closely enough. The fasteners I was stuck on have a center section that you can pull out with your fingers and it retracts the barbs and the whole thing just slides out of place easily.

An old metal fork works wonders and saves a few bucks.
