Hose Techniques ?

I'll answer before GroHarlem on this one, if that's okay.
I bought a universal hose kit (red) from a local auto parts store, along with some red wire loom in a few different diameters.
I covered a LOT of the engine with the stuff, and my total cost was under $50 - not bad at all. I could have done more, too - but I just got tired and never went back to it.
The hoses were fine quality - I have no issues with pinching or kinking, but there are a few hoses (like the thick piece that comes off the PCV valve I think) that I cut a little longer to make more gentle bends (the stock hoses are pre-bent to specific angles).
Worked out nice. You can see pics by clicking the link in my sig - pics are in the "My Protege5" album.

I've seen the universal kit at an auto shop up here, but that alone was about 54$ and it didn't really seem like a whole lot of hose. I was thinking that if i ordered a bulk amount online that even with the conversion and shipping i might come out ahead...
Damn it costs alot to play dressup in Canada...

I was also thinking of that braided stuff which just goes over the hose. That would look sharp I think and not be so over powering. I would want the red ends though to keep it in the scheme.
I am already planning on painting my valve cover red so you can imagine how much colour there will be under there.

does anyone know what kind of hoses go one the 95 1.5L i'm interested in dressing up my engine a little. I wanted white silocone hoses but it seems no one makes them so i'm going to do red but i am not sure what sizes to get.

If you want to just cover the hoses and not actually replace them, you could do like i did and order some hose covers from www.summitracing.com, the part numbers are below, they look good and are really $cheap$ the total price was $12.99 for 10ft rolls of 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", and 3/4". This is not silicone tubing though it is convolted tubing that is split down oneside. I had tons left over, since i didnt wanna go overboard with it. Well hope this helps , at least its another option for poor folk like me hehehe.....Peace..

I'm thinking of doing the dressing thing but I am being careful as I don't want the whole engine to be overwhelming in colour. As you know now, it looks like my colour scheme is yellow and red with the black accents or is it yellow and black with the red accents.

I want to get some yellow and some blue hose seeing as how that seems to be MY theme!
I need to first get a good idea of lengths and sizes i need, and then decide how much of each color i want, and then I think it'll be order time!! I MAY (that means not for sure) have a means of saving a lot on shipping by routing it through my fiance's work's ups account, but it'll take longer to get here as it'll be shipped first to texas, and then here. The nice part is we'd only have to pay shipping to texas. From there it'll be part of her works regular shipping (read: no charge)
