Hose Techniques ?

Can anyone tell me the sizes of the silicone hoses in the HOse Techniques kit for the P5?

I want to dress up my hoses, but $70 for that kit seems unreasonable. I know I can do better, but want to make sure I get most of the sizes correct.

They give you 6mm, 4mm, 3.5mm. Length im not sure but I think it was 10ft, 10ft, 15ft. I had a little left over. Those hoses are not as durable than the OEM ones and most of the OEM are custom bent. AND... some of them vaccum hoses are a bitch to get off. I had to use needle nose pliers and twist and pull. I even had to take off a fuel regulator (think thats what it was) to get more leverage & room. The color matches the Injen intake perfectly. Im very happy with the results, though I think I paid a bit too much.

I was figuring they overcharge somewhat. I have found several places on the web to get the silicone hoses, though not in a model-specific kit.

New Edge Performance sells a kit with 10' of 4mm , 10' of 6mm, and 6' of 8mm for $35. Not bad. And Baker Precision sells the hoses by-the-foot.

If I do this, I'd really like to cover hoses other than only those that the Techniques kit replaces - like the AC lines, etc. I wouldn't replace 'em, just wrap 'em. I can get the colored wire ties at Radio Shack, too.

Thanks for the sizes - it'll help. Can 4mm be used in place of the 3.5mm? Is that extra .5 really critical for the fit?

So should I cut pieces a little longer than stock, to make the bends easier without kinking? And, I thought the silicone IS more durable than rubber hoses - this is not the case?

Thanks for the links, hihoslva. To cover those other area, you can get wire looms. They are corrugated plastic, usually black on stock vehicles but many places have a variety of colors. A friend of mine cut a slit down the length of silicon hose and used that as a slip cover. It looked awesome.

GNO - the plan is to do the slip-cover thing. I certainly don't want to mess around with AC lines, although replacing the coolant hoses would be cool. But I don't think I'll be messing with them. The looms are a good idea too, for replacing the black ones and electrical tape under the hood. I'll be looking into that, also.

GroHarlem - the Hose Techniques kits are expensive for what you get, IMO. The kits (pics below are from a Pro and a Pro5) just don't seem to cover very much. For $70, I'd like to get more (Hose Tech does sell a much larger universal kit - for $158!!). I think I can do much better buying by-the-foot or just not using the Hose Techniques "brand name".

HT kit on a Pro:

and the P5 kit:

See what I mean? I want more color than that for that kind of money. I'll be sure to let y'all know how things turn out when I get around to this.

Yeah those prices aren't too bad - I'm gonna have to do some math (uh oh) and figure out the best deal.

Thanks for the post tho.

So in checking Nopi - I see the universal Braid kits - this seems like a really good deal - enough braid to do a hell of a lot underhood (more than Hose Tech), for about the same price as the HTkits.

Any idea how this stuff gets installed?

I sell the Hose Techniques kit for the Protege5 for 55.00 and when I did the dress up, I actually ended up with extra hose. There wasnt a ton of hoses you could replace under the hood as most are hard lines or gas lines or other type of hoses you cant replace. But, I could still cover some of those hoses, I just didnt feel like it while I was doing it. But the stuff I did replace or cover looks so much better. I think its worth the 55.00 (but not the 70.00!)

How much extra did you end up with, Mitch? Enough to cover (but not replace) some of the other underhood stuff?

I'd really like to cover everything I can - knowing of course that I'll probably run out of time and patience, but still, I'd like to.

What else do you think you could've covered? For $55, I'll include the HT when I finally place an order from you (you must think I'm so full of trash by now, but as soon as the WeatherFlectors are in, you WILL be getting some of my money).

BTW - did you get my email about the stock mirrors? Oh, and do you carry (or can you get) the AEM intake for the auto? (it doesn't drop down like the other one - the cone end stays up top in the engine bay - like .this pic ).

Thanks

It covers mainly the hoses in the back of the engine compartment, there arent many hoses up front. I dont think the kit for the Protege5 covers as much as the kits I've seen on other cars (and those kits cost alot more!) but its not that Hose Techniques just didnt include enough hose, there just arent as many hoses that are replacable. It covers what I needs to. You could cover the spark plug wires & a couple of other hard wires on top of the engine. I also covered the battery cable & the rod that holds the hood open (that really looks neat). But I could use that extra hose to cover some other stuff if I ever looked at what I could do. Ithink its a nice kit. It really looks good. I do carry the auto AEM intake. I talked to the WeatherFlector people & they are looking at hopefully middle of April. So about a month.

The kit gives enough hose for pretty much every thing that small. Most if the hoses left but maybe a couple 3 are way too big.

Thats a good deal, Gro - it's silicone hoses, right?

I still think I'd like to buy more than what comes in the HoseTech kit - you were able to get more from NOPI for the same price.

Post some pics when you get it all done!

5 feet of 8mm hose
4 feet of 10mm hose

All red in color for about $55 plus shipping. I went ahead and ordered some WR floormats, and some isotta door sills with them lol.
Time to revive a dead thread...

Gro, how did those hoses work out for you? any problems with the hose being too thin and pinching or anything? How did the lengths work out? Did you have lots leftover?
