horn upgrade?

I like my Protege because it's deft enough to dodge most traffic
problems, but sometimes you need to use the horn. Unfortunately,
it's a rather timid one.

Has anyone replaced the stock horn with a louder or lower sounding
one? Any recommendations?

What about off another car?? Im going to the wrecking yard tomarrow to get A LOT of parts for my 323. I too want to get a loud horn. Can you recommend some cars that come with sexy(hehe) sounding horns, that are pretty loud?

Go for air horns - they ROCK!

I was bit put-off by the crazy install instructions on the unit at my local PepBoyz. I'll probably be ordering one from Moss Motors made for the Miata. I had one from them on my 93 Miata, and it kicked ***. Dual horn, and a nice note - loud and kinda high-pitched.

The install for that one is made for the Mazdas, which only have one wire lead to the horn. Modifying the mount should be a piece of cake, and it's only about $5 or $10 more from Moss than for the good ones from chain stores.

There's tons of room in the engine bay of our cars - you could mount them just about anywhere you want.

The Miata kit mounts them in front of the radiator, down low, facing down. You can actually see the horns (pointed toward the pavement) if you were to look in the large air opening in the lower front bumper. They might fit in the same way in the Pro. If they are exposed to weather, they need to face down so no water collects inside the horns. Under the hood, they can face whatever way is convenient.

I don't think finding a mounting location will be a problem at all. I'll post more info when I finally put some in - might be a while though, I'm waiting for more mods until the spring - saving some cash for warm-weather work on the car.

I think I've seen someone with air horns somewhere, on one of the Pro boards. I remember seeing them mounted over the pipe of a CAI - are you here??

Yea get Air Horns...Easy Installation. You can get them at any automotive place, JCWitney has em for like $15.00.

It will sound like a TRUCK or a RIG. be redneck, but cool

Hella Horns

I went with Hella Horns, they are not air horns but they are very loud! I did a simple relay to the old horn hot line, and went straight to the battery for the Hellas. More of a german sound than Italian.....

Oh, i remeber my old Jetta and Golf had nice "manly" sounding horns....look for 85-90 VW horns at a wrecking yard if air horns aren't your thing.

That's the one, Mazdaspeedwest.

Where'd you get those? Are they the Moss Motors (or similar) type? They look just like the one's I got from Moss for my Miata.
