Been looking looking looking all around for high-output altenators for my 92 lx....can't find any! Im running a MTX 801d (800watt) with a 12 type-R Alpine and a 1f cap....pretty good punch, and I can turn my headunit to about 20 before the headunit starts to dim on the punches and also my lights will dim. I want to add another 801d and another type-R but I feel the shitty 65amp stock altenator will just not come close to doing the job. Any recommendations on where I can buy a higher output alt? No places around me either to rewind 'em.

I would talk to Blue Ledz and 1st MP3. I too have the dimming problems of the head lights and did the following so far: I had the 1.5 farad cap, so that didn't help any, installed a bigger battery, made a groundkit with 4 gauge wire throughout engine bay. My next step is to replace the wire from the battery to the alternator with 4 gauge. I am hoping it will fix all or take most of the dimming problems out. Some people buy a 3-5 farad cap that you can get on SoundDomain, but it is around a few hundred dollars! I am going through the pain in the *** route by doing every thing around the stock alternator. Power? I am running only 900 watts RMS, but the amps are class A which provide good clean sound with the sacrifice of poor efficiency!! Trade offs there! They like to produce heat and draw a lot of current from the electrical system! If you go the groundkit route, www.knukonceptz.com has the best prices for great quality wires and accessories. That is all they sell, so I guess that is why they are significantly cheaper. Do I work for them? No, but if they see this, hire me!!! Hope that helps! Otherwise, the only other option is to rewire your stock alternator which I hear is expensive! It would be worth while though if you plan on competing in SPL competitions and/or plan on using a lot of power!

Did you notice any gain from adding the groundkit? Some people say it's a great thing to do, others say it doesn't do ****. Since I work at Circuit City and can get everything at cost, it wouldn't really hurt my wallet to buy the 4g wires and do it up. Just curious if it helped out your situation.

 

No it didn't do ****. I even got a bigger battery and use a 1.5 farad cap. I love my battery, the car starts right up with no slight hesitation whatsoever. Mazda alternators just suck! Next I am going to run 4 gauge wire to the alt from battery. By the way, my groundkit is all 4 gauge wire. Funny I never had this problem in previous cars including a base model Eclipse with a smaller than Mazda alternator. Funny too how most of the wires under the hood have Mitsubishi emblems on the plugs. This is a never ending battle for me. I really don't expect any improvement after crawling around under the car trying to rewire thicker gauge wire to the alternator. I will eat my own **** if it works, I'd be so happy!! (not really, that's pretty sick man!)

 

Blue you had a lot of problems with the new one didn't you. Wasn't it a pain in the *** situation that you were in? I am trying to avoid rewounding mine for more amperage. I should have stuck to deck power, infinity reference 5x7's, and infinity reference 6x9's followed by a single 10 inch sub powered by my 3.0 (excluding the 6.0 entirely). If only I knew what I know now.
