Headlight Removal

Did a search and didn't find the answer.

Taking the headlights out of my 01, is it neccessary to take off the bumper to get the headlights out?

I've heard that it is, but that really seems time consuming. To take off the whole bumper just to replace the headlights.

Thanks.

I tried this and couldn't get the clear lens off the headlight. I got the headlights off, but not the lens. Did you use a heat gun for the gummy stuff?

You could use a heat gun to remove the silicone...i didn't have one on me so i just used a simple blow dryer...took some time to do, that's why it's good to have a friend help out...i heated one side of the assembly and then simply pry down the sides till it opens up...be careful not to break anything...

You then pop off the amber reflector and it's done...when putting it back together i used clear silicone and lots of it so no moisture can get in...after 24 hrs it was dry and ready to put back in...and it looks sick...

Thanks for that tip. I was thinking about buying a heat gun to do it with, but now I wont. I guess it just takes time to do it.
