Cool Gauges

Hey guys first off...i wanna say that you guys some cool proteges in here. I have a 2002 ES 2.0 Silver Protege. I haven't done anything to it except put tints, but eventually i'm gonna put the whole mp3 body kit and O.Z. Crono Evolution wheels. Right now tho i'm gonna intall an Alpine cd player and the problem is that all the lights on that Alpine are blue, and i'm sure you all know that the lights on the gauges are red. I want to change it blue but i really dont like the indiglo gauges. Is there any other thing i can do?? thanks guys

You're pretty much SOOL (**** out of luck) on that one, without some tricky mods.

The gauge pod can be removed easily enough, and the bulbs that illuminate it are colored and can be replaced. But- the guage faces themselves have a tinted coating on the back of them - so just changing the bulbs doesn't do much to change the color. Someone here did change them to blue (trying to get that VW look, no doubt), and reported that all it did was make the gauges a little more red than the stock amber - the combo of blue bulbs with the amber coating on the backs of the gauges made red.

So you'd need to peel the film off the gauge backs, and - assuming that's even possible - getting the faces off is not an easy task. In fact, it seems everyone who tried has broken the needles trying to pull them off. As of yet, I have not heard of a single person who removed the needles and gauge faces successfully. Anyone who installed indiglos seems to have to widen the hole for the needle a bit, and slip it over the nedle while it's still in place.

If you discover a solution, let us know. But you may just have to learn to live with the amber gauges/blue radio combination. You'll get over it quickly, I'm sure.
