cranking out some tunes...

Ok, I've done a similar thread to this for power.. but this time I'm looking at pure sound quality.

I've looked around a lot and read up a bit.. I must say, you guys friggin rock!! I've learned a lot.. yet I still know jack about audio systems.

So, here's your chance dream up a kickass system.. one that will (hopefully) make people go.. ooh, that sounds sweet. I don't care about crankin it up super loud, or thumping to rap.. I want good sound.

With aproximently $1000 (maybe a bit more if nessicary)... what combination of things would make a nice system?? I know a really nice system will run me a good bit more than this.. but I think I can get something nice around there. I want to do some nifty tricks with the placment of stuff (mainly amps since as far as I can tell it doesn't matter where you put them as long as they are connected correctly)

I'm willing to build boxes for stuff if needed, but would preferably like something that I don't have to build.

Sorry if I irratate anybody with this thread, but I get so overwhelmed with info that it's hard to seperate it out.

Massive appreciation to anybody who helps me in my quest.. someday I hope to be among the guru's, sittin around answering newb questions (I do it in other interests of mine so I can appreciate how much effort you guys put in and how much crap you deal with)

Thanks,
Kyle

Hi Kyle! I'm no guru, but in my quest for SQ (sound quality) I found Elemental Designs (http://www.edesignaudio.com). You should definitely take a look at their site. They have some audiophile quality products with very attractive pricing. I got one 12" K-series sub, but for your needs you probably want to get at least 2 subs, and since you have a lot more to spend than I did, I recommend you look at their high-end series subs - the O (enthusiasts) and A (audiophiles) series. I also suggest that you browse through the thread I've started (Help me decide on a...). You may get some ideas and learn quite a bit about subs, amps and subwoofer enclosures. Good luck!

Normally I would recommend elemental also, but in your case I am going a different route:

These prices are all from crutchfield to save you from having to buy at many different places, but here you go:

HU: Alpine CDA-9807 $280(Good base to start with)
FR Speakers: Infinity Reference 6800cs $200 (A good set of components that will fit right in)
RR Speakers: Infinity Reference 652i ($70) ( A good 6.5" Coax)
Amplifier: US Acoustics USB-4085 (Run the front speakers off two channels and bridge the other two for the sub. RR speakers run off of HU)
SUB: Kicker VCVR102 $230 (I usually wouldn't recommend a prebuilt unit like this, but to save you time and still get good sound, this will be sufficient)
WIRES:
SWX AK4 $40 (4 gauge amp wiring kit)
Scosche EFX 17' RCA cable $9 (Amp kit only comes with one RCA, need another)

Put the sub in the hatch area and mount the amp to the box or the back of the rear seats. All totaled this sytem will run you $974.92 shipped to your door. Now...You can probably get better prices online or on ebay on many of these items to bring you costs down even more or maybe find a good 5 channel amp to run all your speakers. If you really want to build a box, then get an elemental 10k.14 which will provide decent bass and build a box for it. A nice 5 channel (Alpine, Kicker, etc) is less than $300 on ebay, the 9807 HU is about $200, the infinity components are about $100 and the 6.5s are around $20. Which would put you at about $620 not including the sub or wires.

Sorry for the long post, but I just thought I would give you some info

re

ok blue, so what would you reccomend for the rear speakers and wires?

Also, if I'm reading correctly.. this will leave me with 2 amps? That's cool, but I'm just trying to clarify.

Thanks to everybody who's dropped in their advice, feel free to keep it commin! P

I don't have rear speakers and my ride sounds awsome! I would spend the money on every thing else and worry about the rear speakers last. You can go with a set like Rider suggested. Infinity Reference 6 1/2's sound good and just have your deck power push them.

for the sake of my sanity and my head not exploding.. would somebody care to hook me up with a list of wiring I'm going to need? All this info is starting to make my head throb hehehe

Thank you sooo much to all those who've added their input.

I am going to wire a single, mono amp to a subwoofer, and I already had the RCA cables needed for the connection between the HU and the amp (15 feet Audiobahn RCA cable), but you could buy yours from the Knu' guys.

Knukonceptz.com

Here's what I purchased for myself last night.

I just ordered some cables from Knuconceptz.

9 feet - Karma 10AWG Speaker Kable (2x sub to terminal & terminal to amp)
18 feet - Kolossus Kable 4AWG Red/Silver Power Wire (battery to amp)
5 feet - Kolossus Kable 4AWG Black/Silver Power Wire (chassis to amp)
1 - In-Line Waterproof AGU Fuse Holder

All that + Premium Shipping = Total: $56.12

I hope the cables don't turn out shorter than I need.
I also asked them if they could include 4 80AMP AGU fuses in my order, because they have them in an amp kit, but I don't see them being sold separately.

I did not order the battery terminal from them because someone said that there's a problem with it.... Gonna look some place else.
This is not all you need, but I guess you get the idea. Go on from here...

re

aww that sucks.. I hate that!! My browser does that ALL THE TIME.. so I just started typing everything in notpad then cut/pasting into posts (unless it's just real short)..quite annoying. Technology just blows sometimes heh

Thanks soo much for the effort though Whenever you decide to retype is cool, I greatly appreciate it. You guys have saved me a massive headache, especially you blue.

I'm going to start ordering stuff probably tomorrow.. I figured up everything at the best prices I can find and it's like $1085 delivered to my door.. plus wiring. I found the HU on ebay for like 200 new and the rear speakers for about 30..It's gonna sound great I do believe.. and I will post some pictures when I'm done.
