wow, i hope they aren't messing with the alternator for an alarm install....even with remote start.....i think you meant the tach wire for the remote start which is up in the engine bay which is only one connection and easy on a Protege....older systems and tachless vehicles had an alternator strap to detect voltage when cranking, but i doubt they needed that.

It's not that I'm too lazy to lock my car....it's that just as I'm dozing off to sleep.. I wonder if I locked the car or not.. each time i've gone out and checked, it's been locked.. but that's the problem with second nature.. I can't remember doing it .. so I'd rather not worry about it (or crawl out of a warm bed! )..

Having a remote that shows if its locked like the compustar ones would probably put my mind at ease I'll have to call around and see how much it would cost installed..
Well, with a Viper you can kinda have the best of both worlds. Viper has a feature called, high security arming, in where by pressing the arm button after the initial press to arm the alarm, it will bypass certain zones or all of them (except ignition) The only down fall is that it does have a whirly sound and 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 chirps to confirm each extra press.

It can still be set to auto arm/lock, but you can override that anytime before it times out and arms by itself by manually arming it by pressing the remote button and the corresponding extra presses.

and as i said, Viper also has a 2-way remote system w/remote start. (but don't be fooled by this jackass trying to get $650 for it on ebay, if you happen to search there)

I think I'm just going to get an alarm that lets you turn off the noises.. or one that can be installed without the noises.. car alarm noises really annoy me..

I really like the idea of getting paged if something is going on.. but I don't have any need to announce to the world that I have an alarm so theres probably stuff worth stealing in my car

Give them your city, state and zip

They will send you a listing of the nearest dealerships...then you can price shop.

Later

I have sent two seperate emails asking if they have a dealer in Wichita, Kansas and no response to either one... I did put the zip code in the email.

Why don't you call them? They are probably being barraged by thousands of people...

But you guys are right...it was expensive...but with all of the features that it has, I think that I made the right choice.

Many of the car alarm stores in Canada carry that line...not so many in the states. 2 only in Seattle.

For those of you that have had the CompuStar alarm system installed in your car, what was the price of the alarms and what did the installation run you? Just looking for ballpark figures. I planning on getting glass, shock, remote start and disable engine options if that helps at all. I have a 2002 ES.

Thanks

The quotes I got are
499CAD for the 2WFM
599CAD for the 2WSS

Install varied quite a bit from place to place.. from 160CAD to 260CAD..

You'll have to figure out how much that is in your weird currency

My only suggestion is to make sure that you get from the store and not ebay...ebay is great for price, but it may not help with the warranty.

Also remember to get a qualified installer. It may cost a couple of extra bucks, but it will be well worth it in the end.

Also another suggestion, if you do get this alarm installed, see if the can also install a hood pin. A hood pin will lock your hood if the alarm is activated so that the would be thief can not pop the hood and pull off the battery.

mazdaspeedwest can probably go into more detail considering his experience in this.

Mazdaspeedwest what other gizmos can I put into my car to make it more of a hassle to steal?

square wheels?

but really though, the more you add to hassle the theif, usually inturn hassles you the most, In the form of a failure every now and then...would suck to have the fuel cut off fail on the frwy at 80mph.......or the ignition kill for that matter....no power brakes, no power steering...no power period. A starter kill, even if it fails will not hinder a car already in motion...just don't shut it off

or maybe just a big rotweiller or doberman...but get some seat covers and a bigger cup holder

and get a good insurance plan.

had my compustar 2wfmr done at a local shop, us$550 installed. btw, the 2wssr (spread spectrum) has a bigger pager (aa battery), longer range and has a vibrate mode too. look at another $100 for that alarm.
