Car Alarm/Remote Starter

I've read about so many different alarms I can't see straight.. I'm going to try listing what I want it to do.. and see if anyone knows what alarm I should get.. and how much it would cost installed... thanks :)

1. Remote starter.. preferably one that has a setting that I can turn on so it will start itself every now and then too keep warm..

2. 1 button to unlock the drivers door, 1 button to unlock all the doors (I don't like the stock double push method.. people constantly try to open their doors before their unlocked)

3. Magically locks all the doors X seconds after all the doors are closed if the key isn't in the ignition (not sure if this exists)

4. One that can do all these things without actually arming the alarm.. my car parks in a secured parkade with patrolling security guards and cameras..so I'm not worried about it getting stolen the majority of the time... and I don't want the alarm going off .. since I'll never hear it anyways..

Any help would be appreciated..thanks :)

How much are you willing to spend on the alarm and remote starter?

I just purchased and installed the Compustar line.

2WFM-AS

It took the installer 5 hours to do all of the work. (Alarm, Pager(range is 1/4 mile), Remote Starter, Hood Pin, Door Locks, Starter Kill, Knock Sensor (this is an awsome feature), the works)

They currently have a new line out called: 2WWSS

The only difference is coloring and the pager can track signals upto 1.25 miles.

I'm willing to spend... gee I don't even know... Usually, I decide what I want.. find out what it costs.. and then decide if I feel its worth it.. I'm more likely to wait until I can afford one that does everything I want, then to give up features for a lower price..

How big is the pager? Are there any that have itty bitty pagers.. that go on a keychain? (like the same size as the remote door lock unit I have now)

check out the site:

compustar

The remote is an LCD screen with 4 buttons. Most upper to good system will cost between 350 to 500 USD.

The remote is slightly bigger then the standard remote that comes with the pro5.

Installation is extra.

CitizenPro...was 450 with install or was that just the product?

Sorry...it was supposed to be .org not .com...

I just fixed it...you should now be able to go to the site directly.

you can also search through here www.directed.com any of these products are high quality and worth the money.

They will do all you want them to do and more....one way to keep the car locked but not armed (your #4) is to put the alarm in "valet mode", most alarms features will continue to work in valet mode, just that all sensors are "offline". You could also manually lock the doors and simply not arm the alarm.

i don't think you'll be able to have them lock after xx secs without arming, not a very common feature.

The compustar models seem pretty nice.. the remote is really cool..and from your description doesn't sound very big at all.. do any of those models magically locks all the doors X seconds after all the doors are closed if the key isn't in the ignition? I looked at the specs, maybe I missed it... if not, are there any alarm starter combo's that do have this feature?

Thanks for all your help on this! :)

And thanks mazdaspeedwest.. I'll check out the link..

That is something that I reallly do not know...I know that usually if you open your door using the keyless entry that the vehicle will automatically relock your vehicle after so many seconds.

Usually it is in my second nature to automatically press the button to lock my car.

My best suggestion is to take down 4 systems you like and email the companies Customer Service Line and ask.

Or this may be a question that is more tuned to the installers on the board.

But one of the reasons why I chose the brand that I did is that the remote shows the status of your vehicle. (I currently have the car cherried on this aspect) It will show me when I start the car, someone is waiting at the car (knock sensor), etc.)

But choose the one that will best fit your location.

I'd be willing to put up with it arming if it auto locked...

It's not that I'm too lazy to lock my car....it's that just as I'm dozing off to sleep.. I wonder if I locked the car or not.. each time i've gone out and checked, it's been locked.. but that's the problem with second nature.. I can't remember doing it :).. so I'd rather not worry about it (or crawl out of a warm bed! :) )..

Having a remote that shows if its locked like the compustar ones would probably put my mind at ease :) I'll have to call around and see how much it would cost installed..

Send an email off to:

dealerlocator@compustar.org

Give them your city, state and zip

They will send you a listing of the nearest dealerships...then you can price shop.

I just had a Polar start installed. It has an alarm and remote starter in it. Lets see, umm, it unlocks and lock alls the doors when you push the button.

Umm there are other "modes" But I haven't figured the damn thing out.

For some realson the alarm is going off now when use the auto start thing but that is a setting problem. (I m dumb when it come to this stuff)

But the cost was good. $250 CAN incl install ( but I swindled a deal from a friend at Visions)

:D

It was $450 with installation. The place I went to had the $1.00 installation thing going on. They had all types of brands like "Viper", but this one really impressed me. It took them about 21/2 to 3 hours to install, because they have to mess with the alternator and all that other BS.
