Auto dimming mirror question

The Mazda site lists the mirror with compass and temperature for the protege. For the 626 it lists the same mirror and one with just the compass. The price difference is about $75. Does anyone know if the mirror with compass only will fit a 2002 protege es? The part number is 8ca06. As usuall, the parts guy has no idea. I figure the themometer is not worth $75 plus the extra time it takes to run the extra wire. Thanks.

i would think you'd need the harness and temp sensor with either mirror. i doubt it's just sitting there waiting...

I can't recall the company right now, i wanna say Muth, but i'm not sure...been a long jumbled week....but at work we use a nice mirror package, auto dim/temp/compass along with outside signal mirrors. Super easy to install, power ground and run the sensor wires, mount the mirror.

If you'd like, i can get you more info on them and prices.

That is the part number from the accessory brochure and Mazda web site. I figure ifthe 626 can accept both mirrors the Protege should, they seem to be the same size. The more expensive one seems to just have the temperature sensor - I really just want the auto dimming feature.

I personally have never been able to figure out why someone would spend their money on one of these things....you were just outside....you KNOW what the temp is....or at least if its cold enough for the heater....or hot enough for the A/C...

and seriously folks.....when was the last time you REALLY needed to know if you were actually traveling NORTH, SOUTH, EAST, or WEST at any given moment........

as for the auto dimming feature? well....that is all well and good....right up untill you tint your windows.....then you have totally wasted all your money

Just checked, not on the current site-no more 626. Mazdastuff does have it. It is 0000-8C-A06.
I have an auto dimming mirroe in my other car and love it - do alot of night driving. I have no desire to tint my windows, I do not like it .

OKIE DOKIE....with no tint...and driving a lot at night...YEPPERS...these babies are handy.......and I guess if the only way to get one would be with a compass or a thermometer...well I guess you would have to bite the bullet....

Buy from the source

I had the auto dimming rearview mirror with compass and thermometer installed by the dealer. Pricey, but usefull accessory. Checking over the installation I noticed the manufacturer name stamped on the back. http://www.rpminnovations.com/rearview_mirrors.htm

You can buy them from the source and the installation looks pretty easy.

well, sometimes it's pretty handy to know when you come up on an exit or junction and the directions saw go west....you've just been driving in unfamilliar territory for an hour, do you think i know what the hell direction west is at this point So it does come in handy...

Protosaab,
sorry man, no more info. I no longer choose their employment.

which is the VERY reason you should always get directions that use LEFT, RIGHT, STRAIGHT, BACK..etc for directions to go....lol

:{D that way....there can be no mistake.

Or... you could familiarize yourself with a few of stars or a constellation or two, and you would be able to find out where is west, and east.

In case anyone is interested, I purchased the autodimming mirror with compass only, and it does work. You also save $66 over the temperature mirror. It is the same mirror except for the temerature sensor. Mazdastuff does have it at a great price $119. It is in the 626 section.
