Is this any good?

Is this sub any good? I was just looking at this sub and was wondering if they were good. It caught my eye b/c i can probably find em on ebay for a good price. I'm not going for competition level subs. Just one 12" that hits and i can feel the bass.

just tell me what u think about this sub and any opinions like have u heard they're good/bad etc. thanks a lot.

I think you can do better for the money - just MHO.

I'm not saying that woofer is "bad" - but there should be better choices out there for $129 or so.

I've heard good things about the Kicker Comp VR's - $149 at Crotchfield, and the Alpine Type R's, $129.

I recently bought (but have yet to install) a pair of Infinity Kappa 10's for $96 each on eBay (and I probably could've done even better) - Infinity makes great sound-quality woofers.

Do what you like - truth is, one of the biggest factors affecting woofer performance is the install. You can get a JL Audio W7 for like $500, and if it's not installed right, it'll sound like ***. On the other hand, you could get a bunch of Jensen crap, and with a quality install, it can actually sound pretty damn good.

And whatever you do - try not to buy from Crotch. If you REALLY care about warrantees and such, they are good. But most other online retailers (including eBay sellers) offer good warranties, and MUCH lower prices.

o yea im careful with my money also lol. i would probably never buy from crutchfield. mad expensive. i always look on ebay. i only go 2 crutchfield to look at pictures and specs and all that. i dunno i really dont know anything about getting a sub into a box that's right, that's y i really wanna try 2 find a sub that has a box already. that bazooka one i've found on ebay for less than 100 n it's decent enough power for me. the enclosure would b my next problem if i ever decide to get that one.

another one i've alse been considering is the infinity basslink b/c it's like a sub and amp in one, therefore i wouldnt need 2 buy an enclosure or an amp.

someone help me n think of what i should do for a decent sounding sub and amp, but i wont b spending over 150-200 in total.

well the dollar amount you stated really will limit what you are going to be able to get...considering a decent AMP is going to run you that ammount alone, or at least a major part of that amount.

if you decide to up the outlay of cash....I just did an install and used the JL Audio 10W0...and I purchased it with THEIR inclosure...the part number is CS110R-W0. fits in the back of the P-5 up against the rear seats PERFECT, and with pushing a mear 125 watts RMS to it...it punches PLENTY hard, as I have stated in many other threads. the cost of that sub/enclosure new is $165.

just an option.......if you are dead set on a 12...they sell the same set up in a 12 too...the price is about 10 or 15 bucks more.

Wow - tough proposition. Full sub setup for under $200 can be difficult. I did it with my first system - Kenwood sub, cheap wedge enclosure, and Koiiler amp - for $200. It sukked BIG TIME. I mean - the bass was actually decent at moderate volume, but once you cranked it up a bit, things got bad VERY quickly. That's why my wife (still getting used to that - only married 3 weeks!) has that setup now - she likes the bass, but never cranks it very loud.

I would say that the Infinity Basslink might be a great solution for you. It may run you a bit more than $200, but I've heard nothing but good things about it - it's a "warm" bass that adds great fullness to the music. It doesn't "pound" like a bigger amp/sub/enclosure setup, but you WILL know it's there. Plus, they take up only a little space, which is nice also.

I guess Bazooka Tubes are okay - but they really don't like the volume very much - similar to my first setup I spoke of. Try doing a search for Infinity Basslink on the board - I believe a few members have them. Then you can PM them and get some real-world impressions and opinions.

Hey - Nuke's suggestion sounds great, too.

$165 for that setup is pretty damn good - and if it only needs 125 watts RMS or so, you could probably get an amp to do that for around $150 - maybe even less. So a bit over $300 and you'd have a very nice setup.

Good one, Sir!

And I'm assuming the r'stein is sounding good these days, yes?

HiHo....VERY MUCH SO!!! LOL I drove my car to work every day this last week....I bet they could hear me comming a half mile down the road!! ROTFLMAO!! :{D

I have a lot of music that REALLY benefits from the new setup....as I put it in another post...."when the sound is crisp and clear...and the bottom is pounding hard enough to vibrate the rearveiw AND side mirrors that you can't see a clear image in them...you KNOW you are doing some good!!" LOL

I turely love the new set up...I am 1000% satisfied.

Just in case you have never heard it....and want to try a piece of music that although it may not be something to listen to on a regular basis....will truely test the full range of your system....find/download and burn a copy of Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, I have two versions...one done on an electronic organ...the other done on a real live PIPE organ....it will certainly run the gambit of a systems capabilities when cranked.

I know its probably testing your memory....but if you even remember the ORIGINAL Rollerball movie that came out in the 70's, this piece of music is on its soundtrack...it was called the "corperate anthem" give it a shot......

I have read many a post about how listening to pipe organ music can truly test the capabilities of a system.

I have yet to do it - too busy cranking the Alice In Chains and Tool, I suppose. Plus, I still need to make a 'glass enclosure for my new Infinity 10's - they've been sitting in my damn living room for like 2 months already. I gotta get at that before the weather turns really cold (NY, remember) - or maybe just get maxxbling to make me one .

Glad to hear the system is pounding! BTW - dunno if you're a fan of Tool, but their latest album Lateralus cranks HARD. The first track is 8 minutes long, and has that excellent Tool heavy-mood thing to it. Definitely one of my faves for buzzing the mirrors! And I'd be glad to shoot you an MP3 or two if you're interested.

Keep rockin!

if your still thinking about a single 12"

probably a little late, but if your still thinking about a single 12" I highly recommend the eDesign subs.

http://www.edesignaudio.com/

I finally got mine put in today and it sounds awesome. I'll have pics and such up shortly after I get a chance to take them in the daylight.

I listened to several 12" subs in the $100-$200 range and I bought the one sub I couldn't hear. I can honestly say that it blows what I listened to away! Especially in the small box, I got the maxxbling custom enclosure (do a search for the threads).

my 2 cents

I find the Basslink over priced and under performing.
Bazooka sucks nuts.

The JL 12 Nuke is refering to will only cost you about $180 retail and the Amp can be had for $129 retail.

If you only have $200 toatl stay away from bass until you have $400.

Remmeber you need RCA's, power and ground wire and a fuse holder with fuse. Not to mention the install or the Box. A good 3/4" MDF box for 1 10 is atleast $75.

But...Nuke said he got the sub AND enclosure for $165 total - unless I'm reading something wrong. So say $165 for the sub/box, and $129+ for an amp - looks like $300 might do the trick - plus a few bucks for wiring, but with only 125 watts or so, an 8 gauge wiring kit would be fine and can be had for around $20.

Retail Prices listed below.
$180, for JL 12W0 plus box, Nuke's is the 10"
$130 For Alpine MRP-T130 130 watts rms amp
$30 for Monster Cable 8 guage wire kit with fuse + holder
$20 for Monster Cable 5 meter RCAs

$360 bucks total , With install this is going up by $45

So basicly $400
This is all retail of coarse

Yeah - but who buys retail? Just for comparison:

$180 for the JL box/sub (tough to get JL too much less than retail unless you're a distributor)
JBL 80.2 or 150.1 - $89 and $99 respectively, from ikesound.com
FULL 8 gauge wiring kit, including: RCAs, remote wire, speaker wire, fuse holder, ring and spade terminals, etc. - $18 from knukonceptz.com (hell of a deal, and great quality)

Without install, this is under $300 from trusted online sellers. And I'm betting BL will do his own install - so nick the $45+ install charges.

Just offering up the possibilities.
