Angel Eyes!

I wonder if someone could fabricate something like this for our Protege's:

http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=276371

That would look great!

I looked at some of the kits. If you do a search on that VWvortex site there are a member of the forum that makes kits for them. From what I scanned through, it looks like the new BMWs have them stock. I guess they are made for the "European Ellipsoid" headlights. Link below is to a place that makes the kits for BMWs.

I wish P5 has a kit

If our P5 has it...it would be super cool...
you think we can custom make them?
it seems like a few wires with 2 ring...ha ha
not that hard~
just the right size and right wire...

Looks a little more complicated than that. Fiber optics and what not. Follow the link I posted earlier and take a look at what you are getting. Keep in mind that these seem to be a new thing this year for the BMWs. Which means that within the next few months, there will be conversion kits for rice rockets

hmm, seems like on that VW site there are pretty detailed instructions. wouldnt it just work if we were to basically figure out the wiring for the Pro headlights? like i mean just figure out what wire they hook up in the VWs and then find that wire which does the same job in the Pros and wire it up. Just a thought. Im extremely intrested though, im down to try it if i could get your guys' expertise with the Pro5 Headlight setup...

..ill take extensive pics n stuff and what not if i do do it. But just gotta read a little more, i cant jump right in ya know

Well the size of the rings is what first bothers me. Unless the size of the rings in our headlights match up perfectly with the size of the rings given you won't know if they will fit correctly or how you would like. I wouldn't even worry about the electrical part. That is easily spliced. If you wanted to get technical you would have to get some measurements.

yea, that was one of my concerns too. It seems though that he actually compresses the hi-beam ring alittle. Maybe we can assume that they are a little flexible to some point? just a thought..

I'm wondering if anyone on this site is willing to try and fabricate some. Only problem is the 3rd gen Pro's have 3 different headlight housings: 99-00's, Protege5's, 01+ DX, LX, and ES's.

Too true. I've taken a look at the headlights on my 01 ES and they are circles with the top and bottom chopped flat. You wont get the same look except on the circular "blinker". Now, I don't know really what the P5 lights look like. Perhaps a light conversion with the angel eye kit would work? Dunno.

Those "angel eyes" are one of my favorite little things about the Bimmers. They look so damn sweet, IMO.

I would absolutely consider a mod like this. The only issue I see, is that these were wired to the daytime running lights on the VW - well, US P5's don't have DRLs - maybe they'd have to be wired to the parking light circuit?

Also - the "eyes" are lit on the Bimmers even when the headlights are on - I think the "ring" is on the High beams, so when the normal headlights are used, you still get the "angle eye" on the other lamp.

I hope somone will keep us posted on this one - I'm interested for sure. Plus, I've been looking for a good reason to crack open my headlights - for the hell of it

Anyone have an idea as far as cost for these?
