Question alarms

Is Car-Pro by AUTOPAGE as good as viper or should I stay away.Also is battery backup a good feature to have or is a hood-pin better.The carpro is a cpx-2200 it says it has anti-scan is this the same as anti-code hopping, viper 300 esp has anti-code hopping right?The installer "cristol audio" says battery backup is better to have as theft deterant.Any good installer in TORONTO,CANADA area?Someone breaks into car cuts siren and then starts work on ignition right?

I've dealt with both brands, Viper is better hands down.

a back-up battery is better than a hood pin, but both is even better. Don't get screwed, it's not that much labor at all to install both. $35-40 MAX (not including the price of he BUB siren)

(for a DEI BUBattery) the back-up battery siren will start to sound as soon as power is cut, only way to turn it off is with a key that only you have.

Great Thread !! I was going to start a new one on alarms... but now I'll just jump in...

*************************************************

First, I have no experience with alarms....

I need to get an alarm ASAP. I already went to two shops and this is what I got:

* Viper 300 ESP + Audio Sensor = $230 Installed

Another place wants:

* Hornet 732T + Audio Sensor = $200 NOT installed.

The Viper seems like a good deal.. and the shop looks very clean... that makes me believe they would do a nice installation. I dunno though if the Viper 300 ESP is a good alarm.

Anyone has any advices on this ??

Anyone has done alarms installations ?? I would like to PM and ask few questions..

I was doing some readings... It seems like most units take add-ons... like sensors...

I was reading about the Audio Sesnor and the Microwave Proximity sensor... those seem like worth buying...

I am not sure about the main unit... can someone give me the name of few affordable units I should be looking for ??

Thanks

BB

P.S.

NO Keyless Entry.

Any DEI alarm (Viper, Python, Sidewinder, Hornet, Automate, Valet) is pretty much the same. They all function and work in basically the same manner, features and such change, but the quality is the same.

The 300ESP is a great alarm, while it is the entry level unit, it has all the same security features as the others. When you go up in models, your just adding convienence.

The audio sensors, tilt sensors and proximity sensors are great sensors, but not a necessity. All Vipers are expandable and some models have a nice convienent extra sensor plug in port to make it that much easier. The 300ESP has such a port.

$230 for the 300ESP + audio sensor is a very good price, as long as they solder all conections and do good professional work, you'll have a lifetime of trouble free operation.

(the 732T is basically identical to the 300ESP, maybea few less features, but go with the Viper installed.

for more detailed info on DEI alarms www.directed.com

I've been installing for 10+ years, feel free to PM me any questions.

hey all!
just wondering how 'bout the viper 790x, any good? is it worth it? and can it be installed on a 5 speed?
sorry for all the questions but i've been looking for about a month now for an alarm/starter with the 2way system, and i can't decide between the viper, compustar, or the ultrastart one.(actually the ultastart one is not available till next year, from what a dealer told me)any suggestions??
thanks!

Although the Viper is a better choice, i would suggest a unit designed for 5sp transmissioned vehicles for safety reasons. Unless you find a real good installer for the Viper.
