Question Alarms?

I am having a hard time deciding on a car alarm. I know this isone of those things that has some personnel preference behind it. I like the DEI line (Viper) but I am also interested in getting something with a pager. I really don't know how good these things work or what are the best ones to get. UNGO makesfairly good stuff. Please put any opinions you have down. Forget about the price range, it's really a security issue for me.

Thanks in advance.

Thumbs up Viper 550 ESP

I just recently got a car alarm and am happy with it. Although i wish the shock sensors were more sensitive. You have to literally hit my car in order for the damn thing to go off I want my alarm to go off if someone looks at my P5 the wrong way. I think im going back to the shop and ask them if they can do anything about the sensitivity. At least the siren is nice and loud and remote start is a cool novelty although i will probably never use it that often. This model doesnt have a pager btw.

I bought the CompuStar 2000AS security/starter. It has a remote pager which is totally cool. It is an awesome unit, a little pricy but well worth it.

orangealpha:
you should be able to increase the sensitivity by adjusting the security computer thingy. On my system they placed the "CPU" and the shock sensor under the dash. I took a look and found a little dial that I could turn to increase or decrease the sensitivity. You may very well have the same thing.

As always, my vote goes to any DEI brand. They also make a pager system. It's belt clip type, not the 2way. but works well and connects to any alarm system.

orangealpha, your 550esp sensor is certainly adjustable and sounds like your installer did set it correctly, as false alarms **** ppl off big time and soon enough your beloved P5 will have a collection of dents from drop kicks and key scratches....

If you want to adjust it yourself, look up under the drivers side dash, your looking for a small 2" clear cube, most likely attached to the steering collum, an air vent or a large wire loom. there is a small hole on one side with an orange dial. you'll need a very tiny screwdriver, like those in eyeglass repair kits. CW (clockwise) is more sensitive and CCW (counter clockwise) is less sensitive. Only turn it very slightly and test until you get it were you want it. make sure to test it on all windows.

orangealpha:

Ask your dealer about a proximity sensor, if its an option with your alarm. That way it will go off if someone looks at it the wrong way...

I bought a clifford, concept 100. So far so good. There was one glitch that was fixed by clifford at no cost to myself. Check out their website www.clifford.com and read their owners guides. They give specific details of what their alarms do, as well as a breakdown of their warrenty at the end. There is also a chart that gives you all of the alarms and features, so you can quickly see which ones appeal to you.

Print out the chart and go through the features. Money might not be an issue, but there's no sense buying the most expensive alarm if you arn't going to use half the features.

My two cents from the cheap seats...

Unhappy factory alarm...

Does anyone know where I can find the location of the alarm cpu? I wanted to add an led indicator to it.
