Question 1st gen speaker sizes?

I'm holding out for an LX 5sp (which is rare in these parts) and I was wondering what are the speaker sizes in the 1st gen? I'm not gonna be a kid with a huge system but I do listen to alot of music and plan on "upgrading" a bit.

My '91 DX has 5 1/4" speakers all the way around. Be careful if you get an older first gen. because the door speakers have to be extremely thin. Try Kenwood. I ended up trading several pairs of speakers around trying to find some that would just fit in. The newer first gen's (93-94) might be a little more forgiving with door depth though...I'm not sure...anyone else know??

You will have to drill new holes for 6.5s in the back
Use some sound deadener on the doors and the rear deck as well, I'm probably not the only one who notices somewhat flimsy sheetmetal
The grilles in my '92 were easily removed

i have 6.5's front and rear. The rears dropped right in and the fronts needed a bit of massaging. There ARE good shallow speakers out there that will fit in the front doors, i personally have Directed Audio Studio series (with neo magnets) slim and SUPER light wieght, you won't beleive how light there are, and they sound AWESOME! they compare to any of the major brands, Boston, Infinity, MB Quart, etc...

(Directed Audio is DEI, same ppl who make Viper alarms)

I have 6.5's front and rear. I bought the JBL Loud series speakers and they are excellent. THe rears fit in pretty well, the fronts required very minimal mods to get them fitted in properly.

yup 5.25 all around, u can easily slip some 6.5's in back with out cutting deck board. i saw a picture of em, they mouted them on the deckboard not sheet metal and same in front. jus some cutting needs to be done in front if u want 6.5's. as far as i know.

I would definately go w/ 6.5's all around if i re-did mine as the 5.25 didnt fit well anyway. Mazda uses a 3 screw system, so cances are you'll have to drill new holes anyway. And shallow speakers are a must, i have infinity references that are 2.5" deep and i can't roll down my window all the way

I have 6.5's front and back in my car.
Some cheapy 6.5" panasonics for fill in the back, needed to drill new screw holes. Up front have a Kenwood 6.5" component set.... the speaker is screwed into the door panel, rather then the actual door (not the greatest, I didn't install it). Window works perfectly fine, and the basket on the speaker doesn't hit anything.

Wil: I got the grills out on my brothers '94 pro... I remember just bending some metal tabs or someting... might be different on U.S. cars....
