1st gen front and rear speaker sizes?
imagine this visual.. door panel is off, stock speaker is out, you put the speaker into the hole into the door frame and mark the holes to drill.. drill with 1 size under the mounting screw that were supplied with the speakers you purchased screw the speaker in.. thats as easy as i can put it. i can't tell you sizes as i haven't a clue what size bits/screws you have on hand. it's posted if you search, 6 1/2 speakers CAN fit in your front doors, granted their mounting depth is less than 1 3/4 inches.. eitherwise the window won't shut/will hit your speaker magnet. ANY 6 1/2's fit in the rear deck, you just have to be able to mount them right, as space is VERY tight in the rear dash of a protege. a little finess, and you're in good shape. any more explaination than that, don't attempt to install them yourself, pay the 35 bucks and have a professional do it FOR you.

Thanks for the help! I'm going to unscrew the door panel to see how much room I got to play around with... I bought a pair of clearance Sony Xplod 5 1/4" for $35 (last year's model xs-w1321). They have a mounting depth of 1 13/16", which is 1/16" above 1 3/4"!!! So we'll see if they fit or not... I'm thinking of returning these ones if I'm not satisfied with them...
I'm looking at purchasing a pair of Infinity 6002i 6 1/2" speakers for my fronts, but they have a mounting depth of 2 1/4". I've heard of people making an insert that will extend the mounting depth, in this case by half an inch. Is this possible? IF so could someone please provide a more detailed explanation on how this is done? Thanks so much guys!
