Car Insurance Question
Car Insurance Question
I have a question concerning car insurance that maybe somebody on the forum with more knowledge of the laws can answer for me. My family has 2 insured cars but 3 drivers. There is no designated driver for any particular vehicle so the 3 drviers are always alternating vehicles. Does each vehicle need to have all 3 drivers insured on it, or is it sufficient that the vehicle itself is insured under the owner's name? One insurance agent once told me that its sufficient for the vehicle itself to be insured, but I'm not sure if this is true. Can anybody provide some insight on the matter please?
Thanks
Thanks
I don't know the laws that well however my uncle use to work for an insurance company and basically said it is the vehicle that is insured no matter who drives it. While growing up my parents just forgot to mention that I had my lisence because it was cheaper. Basically no increase, they only had pl/pd on the vehicles. They took a risk on my driving. My brother smashed into a retaining wall once and the police took statements, nothing became of it because my dad fixed the car and worked it out with the landowner to fix the wall without insurance involvement. If I were you I would insure the two better driving records and not mention the third person. This is just a suggestion in saving some money. Don't blame me if things go sour cause I really don't know the law.
Each of the cars will have a principal driver. and an occasional driver. Not all three people must be registered on all cars. Put the highest cost driver on the cheapest car to insure. If you have an Audi and a Ford Fiesta, put the high cost driver on the cheapest car to insure. For example put the kid on the Fiesta. Make sure thats all he or she drives.
It is necessary to register all drivers living with you. For example, Dad, Mom, and kid must all be registered if they live together. If the kid goes away to university, he or she can be removed from the policy and still be covered if they come home for the weekend. Other people can drive your car occasionally and still be covered. They just can't be living with you. Hope that helps.
