Lol. Give us some credit. Yeah we do have one divided highway [The TransCanada]. And also a cross-town arterial which is divided.

Update - What's The Fastest You've Gone In Your P5?

Just thought I'd post an update to my previous posting.

I was out with my best friend last night, and she thought it would be fun to see how fast I could really get the Protege. Not one to dissapoint the ladies, I went for it. Downhill, in 5th gear, maxed out the absolute most I got out of her was 183 KPH. I still had alot of road left, and was still going downhill, but it obviously became a drag problem at that speed. No governor or anything, just plain old aerodynamics!

Well, it's not going to break the land speed record, but that's pretty respectable for a four-banger wagon!

Cool

I just bought a P5 2 weeks ago, I drive daily from Miami to Key Largo, there is a long lonely road called Card Sound Rd and it's 99% straightway.....anyways, since day one I have been driving between 80 mph and 120 mph on this road.......the engine loves it!! I am impressed but don't think that on take off you will be impressed.....for that I should have kept my blown 93 Mustang GT.
I know that 130 mph is easily reached.....and that is getting pretty close to what I expect of it , wich will be 140.

Drive safe and have fun!

Update #2

Well, out today with my girlfriend this time, and we were out on a two-lane, flat, straight road just southwest of the little town of Airdrie. Laid the hammer down, and in 5th gear, on flat ground, with a bit of a tailwind, I for the first time saw my speedometer go past the majical 200 KPH mark! It was like 202 KPH I think by the looks of it, and at that speed my main concern was my tires, so after holding that for a good 30 seconds or so, I decided to back off. Mind you, it did take a good 2 minutes or so of punching it in 5th to get that fast (we had a CD going so about halfway through the song we hit it.) My girlfriend Diane had just as big a smile as I did. Never had she had so much fun in a car she said. (I proved her wrong about 30 minutes later in the back seat...)

Speed Ratings
Many of today's automobiles come equipped with speed rated Original Equipment tires. Speed rating passenger tires originated in Europe, where highway speeds can exceed 100 mph. The speed rating indicates the maximum speed a properly inflated tire will withstand for a determined time. Testing for speed rating certification is conducted in a laboratory setting.

*Current tire speed rating markings include the use of the service description to identify the tire's speed capability (P215/65R15 95V -maximum speed 149 mph). Previous customs included the speed symbol in the size designation only(P215/65VR15) and the speed capability was listed as "above 130 mph."

**Any tire with a speed capability above 149 mph(240(kph) can, at the tire manufacturer's option, include a "ZR" in the size designation (P275/40ZR17). If a service description IS NOT included with the size description, the tire manufacturer must be consulted for the maximum speed capability(P275/40ZR17--speed capability is >149mph). If a service description IS included with the size description, the speed capability is limited by the speed symbol in the service description (P275/40ZR17 93W = maximum speed 168 mph).

SPEED RATINGS CHART

SYMBOL
MPH KPH

M 81 130
N 87 140
P 93 150
Q 99 160
R 106 170
S 112 180
T 118 190
U 124 200
H 130 210
V*(VR) 149 240
W**(ZR) 168 270
Y**(ZR) 186 300

and THAT gentlemen...is the name of that tune!

Don,

Not bad indeed! Any idea what road I was on? I just followed Beddington trail until just past Township Road 252 (there's a little grey school house / community hall on the corner,) and then I just went flat out. Great road. Flat, smooth, no cops, no traffic. I admit, 200 KPH is fast, but I wasn't being stupid like Bruce hinted at.

Bruce, if that's not what you were getting at, many apologies! It really was safe. That's the road my Dad and I go to to run his Vette up to speed. I think we hit 280 KPH in his, with the top down... Not sure if he could have gone faster, but at that speed, who cares? JESUS that was fast!

Kind of off subject here... but not entirely... I have a '01 mp3 and I've had it up to 120 mph.. but does anyone know whether or not these cars have governors on them?

No Idea on the road Nick. I usually go towars Clareshome on a little crossroad, dead strait for about 15 miles. But when my friends Ruf 930 gets off the boat maybe we'll look for your road!

As for the govenor.... no.

Don,

When you and I meet up for coffee, how's about a little cruise out that way? I'd be interested to see how the Injen stacks up to the Monsterflow...
