What's The Fastest You've Had Your P5?

Coming home from my girlfriend's last weekend, I decided to really see what my P5 could do. Please note, I was the only car on the road, it was not icy, and it was still light out so I wasn't being stupid.

Anyway, I gave myself a standing start at a red light, revved her to about 4000, and as soon as the light turned green, dropped the hammer and dumped the clutch. After 3 shifts (into 4th) I was only able to manage 170 Km/h at 5000 RPM! I backed off because I didn't want to miss my turn, but the car was really struggling at that speed to go any faster. I have a Canadian P5, so I don't have a roof rack, and the A/C was off. I understand it's not exactly my Dad's vette, but I was hoping that a little more could be squeezed free! Our 2000 F-150 Harley Davidson Edition can pull 160 Km/h no problem!

I must admit, I'm a little dissapointed in her, but this weekend, I'm going to try again. This time I'll miss my turn and really give it to her.

For performance, I'm only running an Injen CAI, but it was close to -25* C so the air was nice and dense, and the engine had to have been making full power.

Just wanted to know how fast you guys have all taken your P5 / MP3's before? I know the body kit adds alot of drag, but I'm sure someone out there has pulled more than 170.

how fast

I got mine up to 110. Open highway. I was going about 80 and dropped it into fourth. At 110 I just didn't want to push it any further, so I let off.

before those damn camera vans (that give you speeding tickets in the mail) came out, i pushed the p5 funk to 110mph with no problem. coulda gone more, but the wind was laughing at my car and having a good time with it, so i decided not to keep the speed.

I don't know about you guys but mine did 185kms before i started to think properly and slowed down.......... can't afford the speeding fines......... it was at 5000rpm...... remember guys....... from what i've seen you guys still have a new car.... 2000 maybe 3000kms on the clock....... imagine what the car will be doing when it's run in properly......... like 15000 - 20000kms hey? any real mechanic will tell you the same.....

Run in properly? What? A car doesn't run faster, or increase your top speed the older it is, or the more miles that are on it.
Where'd you get that load of from?

Oh c'mon guys..........I have a 1991 Protege and I still hit 120mph
on the highway anytime I like..........
I am pretty sure that your cars can go much faster.....**** ....they are 10 years newer than my car............that should be enough....

my top top speed was 125.....

usually when I do runs I have at least another person in the car..
have had up to four people and I still manage to do it, but the peddal stays slammed to the floor until the motor can't produce any more power......

Um yea, yea it does. I'm not being a magazine racer, but have you ever checked out long-term cars in like car and driver and stuff? They do stats like that comparing new to once it's been driven a while. I hit 115 in my '90 323, and I still had at least 5-10 mph to go yet.

I hit 198km at about 6800 rpm, then I had to get off the highway, but i'm sure the car will go about 200-202 no prob, and all i've got is an intake, nothing more.

120 with a passenger could have gone faster but ran into traffic on highway.

A car thats "broken in" say 10-15,000km. might be a bit looser internally, but not going to make a whole lot of difference on the top end. (0-60 & 1/4 mile maybe a few tenths to 1/2 second)

110 Mph on an empty stretch of highway on my way home from work Sunday 11:30 pm... Then a friggin rabbit ran across the road. It got across before I could even get my foot to the brake. That's when I figured it would be smart to go a little slower as I've spotted deer along side the highway and would hate to have a run in (literally) with one. Still though, the speedometer was still climbing and I'm sure she had another 10-15 Mph in her.

Suddenly driving 60 feels so slow
