What have you done to your 3rd Gen today?
yeah, me too, however 1) 2.5 hour drive = long and annoying w/o CC (read: I've done it in the Miata). 2) Better gas mileage 3) it comes off whenever I hit traffic.
^^2) My experience is this is not true in the mountains. The computer works like hell to keep the same speed if you're going uphill, and flooring the gas is within its parameters. Plus, no clutch-in coasting the downhills. I can get better mileage than the computer can.
Took the car into a shop this morning to:
a) fix punctures in LF and RR tires.
b) rotate tires on right hand side. (lugs overtorqued by last mech)
c) oil/filter change (no time to DIY w/out garage or oil catch pan)
d) take a stab at getting stock rear trailing links off
I get all nervous when I take the car in. It's like trusting someone with your *****--"Excuse me, person I hardly know, can you take care of my ***** for a while?"

hahaha nice. But yeah, Atlanta to Birmingham is pretty much rolling hills, no mountains. Cruise does a great job. Also, there's none of that 'foot fade' where last time you looked @ the speedo you were doing 78 in a 70, and now you're doing 85 with a blue light special rolling up on you lol
My cruise control does a damn good job at keeping at the set speed. It never does floor it, but it WILL go into boost and it's quite fun feeling the computer try to understand that. say I have the cruise speed set at 70 but I'm only going 60 when I hit the resume button --it'll ALWAYS overshoot to like 75, it doesn't quite back off the throttle quickly enough. That never happens during a normal drive with cruise on though.. i.e. I'm going 70 and set it to 70.. it just holds it at 70, using boost when needed (like when I had 4 people in my car driving through the northern New Hampshire and Vermont mountains on my way to Montreal --it went into boost quite a bit).
I still like our car's 'relaxed' cruise control a lot more than that of my mom's 03, 05, and 07 Altimas.. that **** is agressive! On the 07 with it's CVT it'll put the RPM at 5500+ RPMs if I pulled the same 'resume to 70 while going 60' trick. On the 05, it would downshift from 5th to 3rd (3rd @ 60mph, so yeah high RPM) to get back to 70 as quickly as possible (3.5 VQ.. it didn't take long lol)
today I found video clips of my car on my camera so I'm uploading them somewhere as I type this.
here's one.. just checked the timestamp on it and I took this vid at 5:30 am on the 16th
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qMN9Rr6Xtc
it may or may not have a 60-100 run on it.. I really don't speed (ok ok, yes I did just recently get a ticket for a 41 in a 35, I'm a criminal lol), I just needed to get that out of my system
it's sad how little the microphone on my digicam picks up. the sound of the turbo spooling is so very loud in my car (louder than other turbo cars i've driven, not sure why.. not just stock turbo cars either) but the cam doesn't pick up that high frequency whoosh at all. plus the video makes the blow off valve sound tame, when in reality it's annoyingly loud.
that vid is with the windows closed though.. there was a frost that night, it was still in the upper thirties when I took the vid (yes.. during the summer haha)

car that was non-turbo originally. How do you say WTF in binary code?
Yesterday I finally had the chance to install my front lip kit while my car is sitting in the garage awaiting a new OEM side motor mount (and new AWRs for front and rear!). And I still have the side skirts, and a strut bar
awaiting installation.

update from over the weekend -
had to install my stupid-*** steel wheels due to an errant drywall screw picked up in the road which made my tire go flat - right before having to go away for the weekend, too. the really stupid part: the tire that went flat only had to get me by for another month, when it would have been replaced by some new snow tires.
i am glad i had some cheap, cheap 15-inch steelies lying around to throw on the car to get me by.

This is really funny. I never thought about how cruise control would adjust to a

One of these days I'll get my AWR rear mount installed, I've only had it sitting around for a month or two now.
I'm just debating buying the 70 durometer inserts for it before I install it. I have the 95 front and the side inserts.. right now the vibrations are totally tolerable, but I know what it feels like with a stiffened rear mount (I once had inserts in my rear mount, removed them when I pulled the tranny) and I don't know how much of that I want in my life again lol
I think the issue is that it isn't really computer controlled.. it's vacuum actuated.. and there's a lot of little things you have to change on the vacuum system once you go boosted. Anything with a vacuum line off the intake manifold gets something it has never felt before --pressure above standard atmospheric

No, I am not getting the side inserts. I just don't have the money. When my side mount broke I ordered the OEM replacement from Ken and also ordered the 70 durometer front and rear AWRs.
I am farming this one out. I don't have the right equipment or tools to change the rear mount.

I found out I'm getting a variable wiper stalk for my car. I had one like that on my 240 and loved being able to change the wiper speed. P5 owners can get one out of a MPV, but sedan owners can only use ones out of European Mazdas. Fortunately for me, a friend found one in a 626 and is shipping it to me. I'm assuming I'll have a to wait a couple weeks though.
