i'm pleased with the zoom of my 2000 ES automatic. It seems peppier than my 98 v6 contour. I can't complain about the cupholders either, not after the contour worst ones ever.
My only beef so far, since i only have the car a month, would be the doors seem a little tinny, but no biggie. Here's a joke from Herman Munster-" I hear they have a new device for keeping the inside of a car quiet. It fits right over her mouth. "

I love my pros cupholders. I think the complaints are centered around the Pro5's. The doors sound like their being slammed shut even when closed with reasonable force. I wouldnt say thier "tinny", but it is a strange experience none the less.

I have a 2000 ES five speed, and it is seriously lacking in "zoom", and Im sure it has a lot more than your automatic. Which tells me you havent experienced real "zoom". I find it hard to believe the 1.8 auto could have any more pep than any v6 out there. Keep in mind the protege is very light as far as cars go, and any "zoom" at all is more contributed to the cars light weight than any serious horsepower being made.
My wife tried to talk me out of buying a 4cyl car because she thought it would be slow at the take off. I explained to her the power to weight ratio and she never understood. A ride in this car proved my point.

Well I have not had my '5' for long but so far I have no real major issues.
Only minor things I have noticed is on cold start it seems to rev high and also have an on & off vibration/rattle in the passenger door.
I am not used to having a moon roof - would be neat if you had a setting to close automatically when you lock the car. I usually get out and then realize I forgot to close the roof.
Have had many cars over the years from Chrysler,Toyota,GM,VW....and I have to say for the money the 5 package/value/quality is dam good! Perfect by no means but what is. Other day saw a new Ferrari being taken away on a flatbed after it quit running.

the "bunny hopping" bothers me...
i still get what some refer to as "clutch chatter" or "bunny hopping" when i slowly accelerate from a complete stop. The whole car jumps up and down until i step on the clutch. And this is from a slow smooth acceleration. Suks!

the car is only bouncy at around 1.5k rpm in second gear/ it's not bouncy all the time unless you're releasing the clutch too quickly.it doesnt happen when i accelerate and switch gears in sequence. it goes nice and smooth.
are you shifting properly?

My gripe is the rear wiper, which misses about a quarter of swipe area on top and bottom of the rear window.
I tried it all, methinks:
1. another blade ( Bosch )
2. cleaning the arm from crap and lubbing the spring
3. beating the @#$% out of the blade so it's looser, and flexes more
Any ideas, other than a new spring ( stiffer )?
