I think he meant added a roots blower to a stock engine, in a hypothetical sense. (The software calculates your power gains with given mods)

THe numbers aren't off but i think the stuff put on the car could never happen. Well here's what i did to the car. Took the stock 1.8L engine, ported the cylenders, boosted the compression to 13.00:1, and had a B&W 420 Megablower, and high performace cam shafts. I'm sure if you could actually ever do that to the protege engine it would be putting out the horse power. THe only problem is that i odn't htink the engine could handle all that. On the program the engine stock is about 99 hp at the fly wheel

oh geez, I thought you meant something realistic....10.1:1 compression, 8psi, intercooled, good solid cams etc....

I'm Candian, I never do anything realistic, its funner that way. Just wait and see, once i get my pharmacy when i'm done school in 5 years i'll have enough to make a crazy 1.8L that'll kill anything, and i get it up to like 3oosomething jsut to show you all it can be done. Then it'd be pretty fast.

LMAO
Wow, I hope you won't be leaving out letters when you're filling prescriptions!
BTW, some of us are already old, and we still like our cars!

I hope I'll always luv cars. I don't see how i won't be able too, and i plant to always have atleast 1 mazda in my garage. Maybe once I graduate, I'll be able to make it crazy. And then once I get a pharmacy and will be bringing in a good chunkof money, I'll get an Rx-#(what ever one is out then) and then make it crazy also. BUt I'll always have a speacial place in my heart for my very first car. I luv it because for cars in its category i think it can beat most of them and it isn't as common as a honda.

I don't know if this belongs in this thread, but has anyone ever thought of setting up a chat page on protegeclub.com
That'd be awsome

when you go for a RX-# car, u better read up on rotary engines first.... and learn about them and everything, alot of regular maintenaince, and if you dunt know anything about them and your paying others to fix ure problems, then you gotta be prepared for a huge bill....

well thats referring to the RX-7 mostly, i dunno how future rotary engines will perform...

matty, good to see you back.

as far as turbo 1.8's go, i know of one, he goes by the name AustinJohn. albeit he has an auto, he boosts 5psi daily on a BEGi kit. i hoped to be the 2nd boosted 1.8, but money issues got to me and i had to sell my kit, it was a BEGi as well.

the main hassles of slapping a 2.0 kit on the 99-00 chasis would be the plumbing, you would have to reroute it or cut into places. when i was on the phone with Corky Bell, he suggested a lengthier intercooler plumbing, with a new piece he could fabricate me. the only drawback of the longer plumbing would be a drop in idle.

anyway the 1.8 (shorter stroke) is superior to the 2.0 when FI is thrown into play, and will beat the pants off of any 2.0. i wish someone would throw a 1.8 into an MSP and see what happens.

the 1.8 and 2.0 are the same engine, use the same head, harness, and block. the only differences in reality are the crank, connecting rods, and pistons.

and to close: a quick fact about the pistons, if you put the 1.8 pistons into a 2.0 motor, you will gain a slight compression increase of 9.1:1 to appx 9.7 or 9.8:1.

anyway if you want to make your 1.8 fast, put a turbo on it. i would honestly reccommend a flyin protege (BEGi) kit.

hey anything that fits the 2.0 will fit the 1.8, or will easily fit with very slight modification. try it.

Time for me to come in once again and cure the ignorance....First and foremost almost ANYTHING for a 2.0L will fit on a 1.8L...very little differences what so ever...Also the 2.0 is not a stroked 1.8L...the 1.8L is a de-stroked 2.0L...the 2.0 pre-dates the 1.8...it came first in the Probe/MX-6 and 626...they destroked it and put it in the 99-00 Protege...there is another 18L turbo member on here..the guy in taiwan, sure he'll be happy to answer questions...the 1.8L is faster in NA form than a 2.0L for 2 reasons. It revs a lot cleaner with a better power band and pulls almost all the way to redline compared to the 2.0L dropping off at like 5800 to 6K..the 99-00 is also a lighter car....However based on the way they both breathe the 2.0L is a better turbo motor and will respond better to boost than the 1.8L..1.6L beats 'em both as a turbo motor though(haha!)...but the shorter rods on the 1.8L are inherently stronger and will sustain higher boost levels before breaking under the strain. The rods are the weak point of the F series engines, especially the FS-DE
