oh boy, here we go...Matty...the 1.8L came on the 99-00...remeber front end parts on 99-00 are not compatible with the rest of the 3rd gens...different hoods, fenders, headlights and bumpers..so no P5 bumper

I was thinking about a body kit and rims aswell, but right now am htinking about keeping the outside pretty stock. I really like hte way it looks, except i wanna get bigger mazda rims. Gonna try and go teh sleeper look. Once i'm done exams in 3 weeks i think i'm gonna get a turbo kit. Hopefully it won't be too hard to put otgeather, I don't mind taking alot of time but i can't do eveything, like taking the center console where the shifter is out of my protege, 2 nuts are blocked by the seat and it took me like 10 minutes to get them off.Tanks for your help everyone. Now i jsut got find the best turbo that i can get into Canada.

yeah I love the spacing trick! I'm sure I'll forget though and ask again later. Body work and electrical are NOT my bags baby!

All I care about right now is making it go fast. I wanna make it the craziest car ever, and totally redue the engine and machine it and forge it and all that crazy stuff.

It revs a lot cleaner with a better power band and pulls almost all the way to redline compared to the 2.0L dropping off at like 5800 to 6K..the 99-00 is also a lighter car....However based on the way they both breathe the 2.0L is a better turbo motor and will respond better to boost than the 1.8L..1.6L beats 'em both as a turbo motor though(haha!)...but the shorter rods on the 1.8L are inherently stronger and will sustain higher boost levels before breaking under the strain. The rods are the weak point of the F series engines, especially the FS-DE
im going to have to challenge you on that, how can the 2.0 "breathe" better if the FP-DE and FS-DE use the same head? the extra stroke does not help in FI either. shorter stroke and near square bore&stroke should prevail.

imo a 1.8 vs 2.0 same mods, with a turbo, the 1.8 will win every time.

no, the extra stroke will help in a forced induction engine, the same way it can help in a NA engine....yes the flow is the same because they have the same head, but the final result in the cylinder is the 2.0 has a higher volume of air.The 2.0 builds peak power at a lower RPM than the 1.8L. The extra air means more in the exhaust flow also, which means faster spool. Plus careful with your claim...the only reason the 1.8L ends up faster in NA form is the way it revs thru the power band...give them both an AEM ecu and it will help the 2.0L more than the 1.8L...check the dyno matty posted.
