No. It's not bad for the A/C for the heater to be on. You just get the extra wear and tear on the system from running. They don't duke it out or anything. The controller for the A/C is actually pretty bright, it can cycle the compressor on/off depending on whether it is needed at the time and it realizes that at full-hot you are not wanting to cool so it cycles the compressor on less.

Also, another advantage of running the compressor when the defroster is on is that the compressor gets lubricated during the winter (when most of us are using defrost). This prevents breakages from the A/C not being used in awhile.

Plus just on the not-knowing its on thing. Since we are driving FoMoCo products I have never seen another Ford turn on the A/C light either. Then some moron would just get confused trying to turn it off.

while we are still on the gas topic....

I was pumping gas the other day and u know how they have a voice at the pump that advertises stuff...
I heard one that said something about pumping up the tank to full everytime will help the vehicle burn something built up and thus make the tank more healthier???? is that just bs to make u pump or fuel?

Well filling the tank leaves less room for the condensation of water vapor. Let me tell ya, I learned that one the hard way. nothing like running out of gas at 2am when the fuel guage still says I have a 1/4 tank. Going by all the rust on the throttle body, the fuel pump must have sucked a good bit of water and crud when the car died.
