I'm getting the feeling I got screwed. I was also told they wouldnt offer leather and I bought the pro5 back in August, so it's a possibility it honestly was not an option.
Sorry for replying so late. Yes all dealer installed. Still have full warranty, had a hanger break on the exhaust and it was repaired under warranty. The dealler said all mods were approved by Mazda Canada (as the mods on the Miata they do)

Holy S.... I just got off the phone with my dealer and they swore up and down that ANYTHING other than what is on the sticker is not covered by the warranty. Mazda will not warranty anything other than what comes from the factory. Feel like I'm getting fed a can of bull here, but maybe it's just US dealers? This is a Mazda Elite and President's club member and they still tell me they know nothing about leather or rumors of a Orange Turbo Pro5...

Eric (shaderman) - Keep us posted as to whether Mazda Canada does indeed have an ECU program upgrade that fixes the "Engine Rattle".

Here in the US the Mazda Dealers (at least mine) tend to know about the problem but don't keep us well informed. The same is true of Mazda Customer Service. When I had the "Engine Rattle" confirmed by the Dealer last December that it was a timing issue, they said that they would notify me when the fix was available. However, they also said that they would mail me a copy of the "Service Report" indicating that they identified the problem as a timing issue. I never received that report and called them three times over a three month period. I did receive it after going to the Dealer. However, the service advisor had difficulty finding my "Service Report" in the computer with my name and addfress but did eventually locate it.

That's why its important for everyone to be aware if a fix has been released by Mazda Canada or Mazda USA. I don't think that the dealers will take the time to notify us even if they previously confirmed the problem. They are just too busy. My dealer is a Ford, Subaru, Mazda dealer and the service department is extremely busy. We'll probably need to let them know that we've heard that a fix is available for them take care of it.

I'll definitely keep you guys posted. I have my appointment tomorrow, but will have to wait until Tuesday morning to see if it really worked or not. I'll make sure to post the results on Tuesday.

Cheers,

Eric

i have been viewing this forum for some time now. didn’t feel it was right to post until i at least had my pro5 on order. i don’t know much about the Orange Turbo but i do know that leather IS an option. just ordered it on mine, along with the ActiveMatic tranny... i remember seeing someone saying they have to wait 8 weeks for their order, same here. i know it will be worth the wait.

Taking my car in for a reg. service next week. Definately something there with the rattle. Really strong today... and when I hit 2800rpm the rattle stopped and the car took of like a rocket. I'll definately let anyone know if they have a prom flash to fix this as rumored.

So I went to the dealer yesterday to have the (B18) ECU software installed. I started my car this morning, and no dice - I still have the rattle. I phoned the dealer and he said he's getting yet another disk in two weeks which will fix the problem. Yeah - I'll believe it when I don't hear it anymore. I hope the fix comes out fast though, because soon it will be warm enough that we won't hear it anymore ...

I still cant figure out if i have the "rattle" or not. One some mornings when I start my car, my car is very noisy. After about 20 seconds, it queits down and drives great. If the car is already warmed up, it starts up very queitly, and you so queit it doesnt sound/feel like its on.

I guess im not going to try to fix something thats not broken...

I have seriously been contemplating getting the 2002 Mazda Protege ES GT model here in Canada... but listening to all these problems you guys are having is making me have second thoughts in a big way.

I currently own the 1997 VW Jetta GLX fully loaded w/VR6 engine. Was thinking of trading that in for the new Protege but now I just don't know...

To PJStyles... if I were you I would not be influenced by what you call 'all these problems' you are reading about here, and just go buy the car. I bought a P5 a month ago and both my wife and are delighted with the car... we do not hear an engine 'rattle' when the engine is cold, but it's possible that if I really wanted to set my mind to try to find such an issue, I would find something to worry/complain about. But you won't see me starting my car and quickly sticking my head under the hood and revving it to 2700 RPM or whatever to try to find what is currently a 'non-problem' for me. I suspect that even most people that have/hear such a noise would not trade their Protege for anything else.

you don't have to stick your head under the hood to hear the rattle. it is quite noticable from within the car and while driving it when it's cold. but i still would'nt trade my protege. just hope someone figures out a fix.......
