Smile Slowly but surely...

Well folks look like my first Mod is just around the bend. My boy is going to by me a Injen CAI for my MSP for Christmas and why cause he is loaded LOL (but what great friends i have . No mod better than a free mod. Soon after that when uncle Sam gives me some of my damn money he stole from me all this year I will have a CAT back system. On the CAT back systems are they just a bolt on or will there have to be welding involved???

It'll bolt right on. Hit the bolts with WD-40 about 15-30 min before you swap the exhausts.

For the money you spend on an "off-the shelf" bolt on cat back, you can go to a reputable exhaust shop and have a nice 3" cat-back installed for less, and you wont have to do any work.

i dunno about that...you want 3" mandrel bent in stainless steel with resonator and muffler, hangers, flanges, etc?? You could buy a nice catback for $500 or so. Check out protegegarage.com they usually have some sort of MSP specials.

well for $165 My brother in law had a 3" cat back put on by a muffler shop, all stainless mandrel bent...he bought a 3" in and out muffler off of ebay...total cost including muffler, hangers, and install....$225.00...he's had it now for 2 years, and it works flawlessly

Those cat back systems are tuned for the specific vehicle their being installed in. I had a friend take his Integra (VTEC with TypeR head and some other work) into a custom shop, had a 2.75" mendrel bent custom job done and lost like 3hp and gained 4lbs of torque.... He was pissed, so he went ahead and bough a 2.25" greddy kit and gained like 7hp and 10lbs of torque.

Point 1: Bigger piping isn't always better. There's something to be said about exhaust velocity as well as flow.

Point 2: Manufacturer kits are tuned to maximize hp and torque out of motors...you may get a little more power by going a little bit larger with FI, but the kits are well designed.

that's on an NA....read who's asking..he owns an MSP(turbo)...3" will work better..on a turbo you want to eliminate ALL backpressure on the system if you are trying to make power anything bigger than 3" is overkill, only because it will just cost you more money....what tuning do you think manufacturers do to an exhaust system as far as piping??? the only real "engineering" is maybe muffler design, and how do you get better flow than a straight thru muffler ???? The only thing good about an "off the shelf" cat back is maybe it might be prettier I hold to my original statement.

that pricing is great man...if he can get 3" mandrel bent piping for that I'd say do it that way but running my turbo exhaust in 3" crush bent with a Dynomax rage magnum muffler was $350 and I had to work on it to get a discount! Personal deals can always be had...just a matter of if he can find them or not and how patient he is....he lives near me....maybe I should I whip out my chop saw and make him one here....hmm..

haha, I'd have to buy 3" piping, flanges, resonator, muffler, etc...it would be cheaper/nicer to just buy one of the currently available models.
