its not that way saying you can't make your car fast, its just that its gona take alot more money. you can any car fast. its just since this is the last year or so fo production for the protege, companies aren't gona invest much into it. they will wait until the mazda 3 comes out. then sell everything you could ever want for your motor and ecu. just as long as you can drop about 10-15 grand, you'll be alright. if you get the jdm intake manifold(somewhere around 500 with all the parts) get the jdm intake and exhaust cams(300) get new titanium valve springs and retainers and all of that(2-300 bucks) port and polish the head. get lower compression pistons(160-200
) if you can find them, and everything else inside the motor. then get a lightend fly wheel and stage 3 clutch(600 bucks). underdrive pulley(120) and 75-100 shot wet nos(500 bucks) and a complete turbo kit including turbo times and boost controller (4k atleast) a high flow car and 3" exhaust into a turbo muffler(400 bucks atleast) plus all of the cost of installation and tuning.

o yeah, haltech stand alond engine management system(1300 bucks), lighter wheels than we have( i know they are like 15 lbs as is) short throw shift, stage 3 axles, quife limited slip and all the transmission parts that have to be replaced b/c of the amount of power being put out.

so yes it can be done and your protege could be in the low 12's or high 11's, but thats alot of money

Well I dont think that it would cost that much to make the car run that fast, but all those parts sound good to me. I never knew that they were going to discontinue making the protege. Thats crazy, never had a clue. But not matter the money, I think it would be sweet to take a car that many people dont believe can make quick quarter mile runs and actually build the car so that it can do it. You will not have to put a turbo and nos on the car to make it run in the 13 to 12 sec range. But its cool, I respect all of your opinions, I dont know what TheMan is talking about? Did he not just say that it isnt that expensive to make the MP5 run fast, then he turns around and says its cheaper and way faster then the Protege5. All I can hope for is that they dont stop producing performance parts for the car. Peace.

If you recall, Jesse and I proved that every claim you made about the technical aspects of you car was complete garbage in the "Mazdaspeed Reverse Problems" thread. All you have to do is post a dyno chart and show how you were able to run 156psi on stock injectors and you'll get soem credibility back...

12 secs con the 1/4 is not impossible. But you have to remember that to take the car that far, you will need at least 300HP on the ground for the stock weight.

Low-Mid 13's I think will be the fastest our cars could give with stock internals and good management, and thats the EDGE.

But...this is only what a think...im not an expert.

igdrasil, I am with you on this one, I think these cars can make the quarter mile runs that fast, but the internals would have to be changed to aftermarket ones. Thanks for the input.

quartermile

quartermile on the mazdaspeed with only 6.9 lbs of boost is 14.9 at best at 93 mph so if you add some boost to a p5 and a new clutch I think you could get close. Like everyone is saying though the pr5 is a auto cross or road course car.

The way I am seeing it is that this car can be the best of both worlds then. If you can run a quick quarter mile along with having a car that has great handling, what else could you want from a car?
