Project 400whp MSP - progress
Well unfortunately the dreaded zoom-zoom-boom hit the MSP about 2 weeks ago. I threw a rod and shot a golf ball size hole through the block. So because of this, it means it's time to go built motor/big turbo.
I have been on the phone with Dereck at Corksport for the last few weeks and we have come up with a game plan for the car. These parts have been ordered and the car will be back up and running within the next 4 weeks or so.
1) Custom Built Bottom End from Corksport: ordered- Crower Rods
- Wiseco Pistons w/rings
- Commetic Headgasket 84.5mm bore
- ARP Main Studs
- ARP Head Studs
- Toga Bearings
- 9:1 Compression Ratio
2) Custom Oil Cooler Kit from Corksport - ordered
3) Custom Tubular Turbo Manifold from Corksport - ordered
4) Garrett GT2871R Turbo - ordered
5) Wedsport SA-90 Wheels - awaiting install- 17 x 7.5
6) Rays Lug Nut Set (Blue) - ordered
7) Stock Evo Front Racing Seats - awaiting install
8) DGMotorsports Front Lip (Urethane) - awaiting install
There are still a few other things I have to pick up like engine management and a set of tires, which will most likely a set of Advans.
I have a fully built tranny already that I was only able to put 530 miles on before the motor went, so that will hold up just fine along with my Spec Stage 3 clutch and JDM flywheel. Once this is done I plan on saving up and getting a quaife LSD and larger axles, so I can push 450-500whp out of the turbo.
Like I said the car will be done within 4 weeks and Ill be sure and keep everyone posted on the progress with pictures and whatnot when I get them in from Dereck or Travis while the motor is being assembled.

The zoom-zoom boom club is getting pretty big.....
shows what a crappy job Mazda did on getting this car turbo'd....
if they had any brains at all at MNAO they would have turbo'd the 1.6L...VERY little differences in power if you compare a turbo 1.6L and a turbo 2.0L, and any moron that took high school physics and geometry would know the simple math....shorter stroke= shorter rod....shorter rod=stronger rod....stronger rod= more reliable engine under boost
