BPT swap progress....

I just put together a site on the cardomains to show the progress and problems regarding the swap of a GTX motor to a Protege.
http://www.cardomain.com/member_page...page_id=263925

It's getting close, I hope to fire it up by the end of the month!

Holy cow man, looking at the wiring photo gives me shivers down my back. Nice touch with the lawn chair.

I am in the process of doing one also but a little simpler approach. For now I will be using the stock GT ECU.

First thing I did after getting it in the car was a test start without the turbo. Believe it or not it actually started. So far so good.

Next is the 89 Probe intercooler and RRFR.

One question though. There is a short coolent pipe above the turbo that I see is not connected to anything. Do you know what it is supposed to connect to?

I have not been able to find one thing on the VJ-22, did a google search on VJ-21 and I found lots of GTXs from Sweden, Norway and Germany listing this turbo. I contacted one turbo rebuilder that gave me the spec code:

vj22= 5200IIUP20NRBUL4016EZ BP26 9N2D

The VJ-20 has different spec's. He said there was no info on the region it was used though. But did say the code shows A/R ratio of 20 (VJ-20=15 ) and said the compressor was larger. I would like to know where you might have heard of its use, I've been looking for months so I would know what to expect from the "snail" I guess I will be finding out by the end of the month!

Anyways, when does your GT-R project begin? Post lots of Pic's not too much info on the GT-R around here! Waiting anxiously to hear about it!

Im sure with the GTR motor you should be able to get there. But the 3-4 days to do the swap. Thats a tight timeline. I guess if you have everything else done exhaust etc. it shouldn't be too tight with people that know what they're doing.

My wiring is finally finished. I can't wait to turn her over for the first time! Now its off to get the intercooler pipes done.
