The size of the engine has nothing to do with 1000 other things like, motor mounts, wiring, ECU, tranny, axles just to name a few of the more important things. You can't just stick any old 2.0 in your engine bay and turn the key.
That said, if you wanna throw $20k into a Subie swap, go right ahead. Nobody'll stop you.

i have seen a rotary protege5 with rear wheel drive. anything is possible if you want to spend the money. turboing a 2.0 that comes in the car will net you as much if not more power than what a WRX has stock.
