It's going to be a hassle no matter what. Because, I will need to do the following:

1) Find second set of (steel) wheels and tires to roll around on while the OEM's are getting powdercoated
2) Remove tires from the alloy wheels to be coated
3) Ship them off for coating
4) Remount tires, and rebalance

Ever thought of getting into this, and doing a "core charge"? Customers could ship in their existing set of wheels after receiving a set of powdercoated ones from you. You would refund the core charge after getting their set of wheels. Of course, surface condition of the wheels decides how much prep work is involved, and it would suck if you got curbed/ bent wheels in exchange.

Man, I wish it was somehow easier for you AND me. Maybe I could get a set of stock alloys off of E-bay, and send those to you instead. But at that point, I 'spose I could just buy a nice set of aftermarket rims, because it will end up costing the same in the long run. What to do?

you answered your own question....it's just too expensive to keep spare sets of wheels around. I'd need 4-lug sets and 5-lugs sets....I'd be out of pocket for at least 2 sets of wheels and my pricing is so low I'm barely making anything off it. If you consider my initial investment in this powdercoating equipment I'm down about $7K right now and haven't made more than about $200 back!

I'm hoping the supercharger kit sales will afford me a new Mandrel bending machine so I can branch into performance pieces and supply a TOTAL performance package for a vehicle.

p.s. Mandrel benders up to 3" run about $36-48K Now thats an investment!

I just need to figure out a practical way to get the wheels coated... I mean, a set of black stock wheels on my car would look SWEET, now wouldn't it? Or, one could take a page out of the ol' STI playbook and do up a set in matte gold.

i thought about doing the gold finish, chrome powder, glow-in-the-dark chrome/white and flat black.

I was originally going to do my brake calipers g-i-t-d yellow for my laser blue p5.....after i melted one piston in the caliper I realized I had to settle for paint.

fuse box cover is plastic....can't powdercoat plastic.

Forum members here get valve covers for $50+cost of paint. typically paint is about $20 per lb. Check my old website for powder choices and prices. It's old and all the new info will be added to my new site when it's finished.
