Performance Chip any good ?

HI guys,

Been looking on ebay lately, and i often see these "performance chips for a 20 hp gain"...for example.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33597

Does this actually do any good ? I doubt i could get 20 hp, but any improvement at all ?

15-20 HP for 5.00, only in your dreams man. It's simply a resistor the put in line with you MAF and they just make it pretty to look at. I don't think you can call it a chip since it is one resistor

Well there is one person on there selling a resistor that does the same thing as the other but he has a dyno sheet for it showing a decent gain, almost the 20hp claimed in the auction.

Now I dont know how much that dyno holds up since if you look it is a dyno from them using the resistor on a corrolla S. Basically what it is trying to do is tel your ecu that there is cold air coming in so that it takes a more aggressive profile in the air/fuel ratio giving you more kick and less fuel mileage.

I actually did this o my 99eclipse when I had it since it cost me 99cents and it did give my car alot more kick, especially off the line but I dont now how safe it is to be telling your ECU that cold air is coming in when it isnt, one issue I have heard is since it thinks there is just cold air around it may not activate the fans long enough and actually overheat your engine, I have only heard of this happening to eclipse's though.

I wont be trying this on my p5 anytime soon.

4.00 for 20 hp seems ridiculous. The car is also my daily driver, so i dont think i'll be doing it.
