New Protege5 Owner's Questions....

I just purchased a Vivid Yellow, Protege5, which I LOVE! This may sound like a "novice" question, but here it goes: I was trying to remove the "front licence plate bracket". I removed one of the 10mm screws easily, but the other one simply spins....It's stripped
I believe. How can I remove it with out any damage to the front bodywork?....as I HATE front lic. plates!

Also I would like to know where I can get a ZOOM-ZOOM licence plate incert? as my dealer does not have any at this time.

Thanks- speedbump.

PS. My manual states to change my oil every 6k miles, this sounds a bit too much, What's your stand on this matter, especially on a NEW vechicle, should you "dump" the engine oil as to get rid of any metal shaving that accumulate in a fresh engine?

First of all, re-read your owner's manual again. If you do, please ensure you're on the page where it says "For extreme conditions". I know you're prolly gonna say that you dont live in extreme conditions-yeah, you do.

If you live in an area with allot of traffic thats stop and go-you do. If you live in a hot environment (ie. the southern U.S)-then you do also. If you rev the **** out of your engine (like I do)-you do.
Also, if you live in a very cold climate(ie nothern U.S./Canada)-then you do.
Under the extreme conditions chart it recommends you change it every 3K miles. the one you read almost pertains to no one anymore. that chart is using completely ideal and unrealistic conditions. however, if you keep your oil level up, you can (at least in theory) change your oil every 7,500 miles. i would NEVER do that unless I was running synthetic-PERIOD!!

With synthetic you can go 4K miles-easy and 5K miles if youre careful. Even at 4K miles the oil will not be black. Anyways, just change your oil every 3,000 miles to be safe. but ALWAYS check
your fluid level!!!!

As for the other info you asked for? Sorry, I don't know. I've only had my Pro5 for two weeks and ive only got 600 miles on mine.

Zoom zoom

I sell a zoom-zoom decal very similar to the one available from Madza. Its .75 x 9.3in and is made of REFLECTIVE white vinyl, which is not available from Mazda so its distinctive. I sell them for $4ea + shipping. Email aeroplane1979@msn.com if you're interested.

To remove that license plate screw, try to put a flat screwdrive behind the head of the bold when you attempt to unscrew it and see if that will work, if not, try to put the screwdriver between the license plate frame and license plate and see if that works...

if not, sorry, I can't help ya!

Good luck

For that stripped screw, simply get your ViceGrips out, clamp them to the head of the screw, and then pull out gently while spinning the screw. It works most of the time.
