Hi, I just bought a 2002 Mazda Protege ES sedan. So far I love the car. I bought it because I heard good things about it. Anywas, I have a few questions:

1. Do you all recommend transmission flushes every 30k miles?
2. The owners manual says to change the timing belt at 105k miles...has this worked for everyone? I always thought you should change them every 60K miles...

yes and no...

yes make sure to change your tranny fluid every 30K miles without fail.

timing belt should be done at 60K regardless. If for some reason you ever have to go into the engine that far (water pump) I'd suggest changing no matter what the mileage is. It's not fun.

p.s. the protege is not an interference engine. if the belt breaks you're just stranded. you wont damage anything. Some people say to just drive it untill it breaks....its up to you.

Thanks for the info Roddimus. I will get the transmission serviced at the next oil change. BTW, is all the good things I've heard about the Protege true? No car is perfect but I'm just wondering if the Protege will be a better car than my 95' Escort.
