new cd deck

I might replace the stock cd deck in my '02 ES with something that plays mp3s. If I buy a somewhat decent unit, can I expect much improved sound quality? I'm not looking for thumping bass, just something that sounds a bit better than the stock setup.

Maybe I should just replace the speakers too.....

Recommendations?

I replaced my front speakers with Polk-Audio Componets and mounted the tweeters behind the side mirrors. Big improvement over stock! The ability to play mp3s would be nice but if you don't have the speakers to handle the improved music quality, it's not going to do you much good. Replace the speakers too.

i installed the JVC mp3 player and still have the stock speakers, sounds is so much better than stock, much crispier.

I'm sure it would sound defineatly better after a speaker upgrade.

I have upgraded the head unit only. And yes, it was a huge improvement. The new Pioneer head unit is even better than the previous [stolen] one!!

Buying the new head unit is definately money well spent as far as improved sound quality, but if you really want to take advantage of having all that extra power the new deck gives you, you should definately look into replacing the speaker set up as well. i reccomend www.crutchfield.com --even tho the prices can be kinda high, you can definately trust anything you buy from this site to be top notch (not to mention a hell of a lot cheaper than buying the whole thing at best buy...)

I have that same head unit in my Evo. It sounds pretty good but it is missing RCA input jacks. The Sony head unit I got in my P5 has them and I just hook my mp3 player into that so I dont have to keep burning CDs. But anything over 99.99 should sound alittle better than stock but you will eventualy want to upgrade the speakers if you ever put a sub in it.

I have been extremly happy with the blaupunkt montecarlo.
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-aBlGYCJ...0&I=023MONTECA

4 preamp out puts, all put to good use, as well as aux in. Did I mention no measurable distorion for the preouts.

Dont just upgrade the stock speakers youll shread whatever you put in becuase the stock thing was the distortion and clipping *****.
