first and foremost it seems anything electrical is or has taken a dump... started with a headlight, no biggy but it's the actual wires not the light itself... then it was (still is) the over drive, now it's the windshield fluid pump (i think)... i'm not a "car guy" but if someone can point me in the right direction i can fix things...

she has lost her book so i dont know what fuse runs what and it was too cold today to start checking them all... does someone have or know of a guide with the fuse layout? or any other electrical info for this car...

it's a 2002 protege 5...

she hates this car now but was "cool" when she got it.. i actually think it's a very good car but then again i've been driving a 96 s-10 since 96

 

it tells you what fuse is what inside of the fuse box cover.....

another thing that went is the rear wiper motor....

nope.... it's an 02 she bought before i met her...

 

In that case, do some digging around on http://protege5.ugly.net and see if you can find anything. I'm not sure if the manual goes in depth on any electrical specs but it should be helpful for a lot of other stuff. Good luck, keep us posted on the progress.

 

You got the right idea - check all fuses first.

Did everything stop functioning on the same day? All tied to one event?

This is not a common problem for the Proteges...

How did you know it was the wires for the headlight? Usually the harness fails because some one upgraded thier headlights to ones that draw more amp than stock...

The rear wiper problem may not be the motor - first check the attaching arm nut torque (lift the cover). It may have come loose.

 

..and the fluid pump - may be a clogged/frozen spray nozzle or hose. Are you using w/w fluid (straight up and not diluted)?

If it warms up - does it start working again?

 

no, everything did not stop the same day.. first it was the rear wiper, then the headlight, then overdrive, then wiper pump...

pump COULD be clogged but it's been well above freezing so it's not clogged with ice.

fuses are fine.

 

To t/s the w/washer fluid pump.
Disconnect the output hose at the pump. Does it spray now out the pump? Yes? Blow HARD through the hose to see if you can clear it. Disconnect at the nozzle end - blow through the hose...

There is a rear wiper motor in the forsale section on the other board if you have confirmed that it is bad.
